Denise Steinker Obituary

Denise R. Steinker, age 58, of Peninsula, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Hospice Care Center of Akron, Ohio. She was born in Erie, Pa., on August 5, 1958, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Betty A. Kindle Hoffman.

Superheroes don't have to wear capes or have super powers like the traditionalist view. No, superheroes can be the average person who's committed to helping others and puts their family and friends first. Denise was in every sense of the word a superhero. She was a dedicated supporter of her children's extracurricular activities, never missing a single event. Denise was any kind of mom you needed – regardless if you were her child or not. She was an avid community supporter, who donated her time to the Akron-Canton Foodbank and other various charities within the area. Her family would say that she was one of the best people in the entire world and that she had a heart of gold. She loved to travel, go on vacation with friends and family, attend concerts and was the life of the party. Her smile was contagious and as soon as she walked in the room with a giant "Hello!" you knew you were in the presence of someone special. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend and family-member. Denise had a great sense of humor that was full of wit and was beautiful both inside and out. Her time here may have come to an end, but the impact she has left on this world and the people she has encountered remains evergreen.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 28 years, Thomas A. Steinker; their two daughters, Emma M. Steinker and Hanna E. Steinker, all of Peninsula, Ohio; one sister, Diane (Robert) Banks of Erie; one brother, Douglas (Ronald Stach) Hoffman of Lakewood, Ohio; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Erie, PA 16506, on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and are invited to a prayer service there on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcomb Blvd., Houston, TX 77030, or www.mdandersoncancercenter.com.

Tom, Emma and Little Hanna-
I am so sad to hear about your beautiful wife and mother...we all lost a special person when she left Ellwood City, and now forever. Denise had so much love for all of you! She was most happy when doing things for other people! I am sad that we didn't keep up our friendship after you all moved but she and your family made a great impact on all of our lives and she will always have a place in our hearts!

To Denise's family,

I too was a classmate of Denise's at Roosevelt and SV. I also had the privilege to work with her years later and will never forget the fun times we had. She was a wonderful, giving and kind person. My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. My deepest sympathy.

Tom, Emma & Hanna,
I am saddened by your loss. Denise was such a wonderful friend. We had such fun when the girls were small. Sitting in your yard by the sandbox, or in my kitchen while the girls played dress up. We walked. We talked. We laughed. Occasionally we cried. We always supported each other. I was driving up from Pittsburgh on Monday when out of the blue I was thinking of her and wondering how she was, I think she came by to say so long for now. See you again. Till then you will be missed by so many people. Thanks for touching my heart. XO

I have memories of Denise when we both were cheerleaders at Roosevelt. Always friendly during those years and at SVHS. Last time I saw her was in 1993 when she was helping her cousin move in next door to us on Gore Road. What a delight to see her again.

Thank you for sharing your memories of your wife and mom. You filled in the blanks of her life after high school. Those memories of her will be cherished. They will bring you much comfort and peace during this time.
