Dorothy Duma Obituary

Loving Mother, Grandmother and Friend

Dorothy J. "DJ" Donikowski Duma, age 89, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West, following an extended illness. She was born in Erie on October 5, 1925.

Dorothy was truly a one-of-a-kind person who always put others first, whether it was volunteering at the VA Medical Center or caring for her husband when he became ill, she could always be counted on. Dorothy retired from the A & P Store in 1978 after 35 years of service and was the former manager of the Grandview Manor Apartments. She was a very active member of St. Luke Catholic Church and was an Associate at the Mother House. Dorothy loved watching the Chicago Cubs "Cubbies" all season long.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank G. Duma in 2009; one daughter, Mary Duma; two sisters, Sophie Perlinski and Virginia Astemborski; and one brother, Louis Donikowski

She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Norman) Boetger of Erie; son, Gerry (Donna) Duma of Erie; four grandchildren, Nichole and Carra Miller and Danielle and Tyler Duma; nieces and nephews, Carol Glance, Russell and Alan Glance, and David (Sharon) Perlinski and their daughter, Melissa.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Ridge Manor – West and the Regional Hospice for their excellent care of Dorothy.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504 on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday afternoon at 12:45 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Erie County Memorial Gardens.

Linda and Gerry, I'm sorry to hear that your mother passed away. I worked with her at the A&P on Powell Ave. in the late 60's. She was a great woman, and taught me to be a cashier. May the Lord shine His perpetual light upon her, and may she rest in peace.
