Marilyn Young Obituary

Marilyn J. (Furber) Young passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. She was born in Erie, on January 30, 1934, a daughter of the late Anna Friedrich Furber and Kenneth J. Furber.

She graduated from Academy High School in 1951, and married her husband of 63 years, Robert L. Young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis A. Ott, in 1970 and her beloved brother, Kenneth "Keno" W. Furber in 1993.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Robert and their three children: Denise A. King (Ron), Scott K. Young (Sharon), and Dr. Daniel L. Young (Linda), all of Erie; ten grandchildren: Stephanie King (Adam Carolus), Kimberly Duncan (Michael) of Hagerstown, Md., Jennifer Foutz (Brett), MSgt. Robert J. Young (Elizabeth), Tech Sgt. Michael S. Young (Halee) of Moody AFB in Georgia, Brian D. Young (Alison), Christopher Young (Nicole) of Cary, N.C., Timothy Young (Erica), Ashley Young, and Melissa Branthoover (Ray); and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three beloved nieces: Barbara Furber Haggerty (Michael), Patti Furber Sitter (Michael Deck), and Julie Furber Bissinger (Mark); and nephews Kenneth "Brad" Ott of New Orleans, and John Ott of Washington, D.C.; and two great-nieces, four great-nephews, and two great-great-nephews; and a special neighbor, Joe Carroll, who was like a son to her.

Marilyn enjoyed a full life of traveling, gardening and card clubs. She spent many hours watching her children, grandchildren and extended family participate in church and school sporting events. She often remarked that she spent half her life on bleachers! She was an accomplished bowler and had been a member of the prestigious Koehler Beer Women's Bowling Team, a member of the EWBA 600 Club, and the Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed hosting her Monday morning coffee girls and spending time with her many wonderful friends. The coffee was always hot and an apple pie was always waiting.

We would like to thank her wonderful nurse Jen from Asera Care, who provided loving care, a listening ear, and encouragement, not only to mom, but to the rest of the family.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m., and are invited to services there on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Bill Coleman and Marilyn's son-in-law, Ron King. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorials can be made to Asera Care Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Dr., Suite 14, Erie, PA 16505

Bob, Scott, Dan, Denise and your families~~There are no words to say how saddened I am by Marilyn's passing. She was and always will be very special to me. She was a most beautiful woman, inside and out and she loved with the most generous heart. She was so proud of all of you. Unfortunately I am still in Florida and will not be able to celebrate her life with you. However, my thoughts and prayers are with you all as you go through the next days, weeks and months.

My most heartfelt sympathies to all the Young family. I didn't know Marilyn personally, but I do know she sent wonderful people into the world in the form of her son,Scott, and her grandchildren, Bobby, Michael, and Brian. She must have been a special person, and I am tremendously sorry for your loss. I pray for comfort and peace for the entire family.
