Paul Kohut Obituary

Dr. Paul A. Kohut, 55, of McKean, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Paul was born in Erie on May 21, 1961 to Afton and Norma (Forinash) Kohut. After graduation from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990, he became board certified in family practice and emergency medicine. From there he went on to practice family medicine in Albion, Pa. for many years. Emergency medicine was one of Dr. Kohut's greatest passions, having been elected as a Fellow by the American Academy of Emergency Physicians (AAEP) as recently as June of this year. He previously served as the Emergency Medical Director of Millcreek Community Hospital and Corry Memorial Hospital. In keeping with his devotion to emergency services, Dr. Kohut was extensively involved with numerous paramedic units in the area, acting as Medical Director for several, including Millcreek Paramedic Services, the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department, the McKean Hose Co., and the Central Erie Co. Paramedics Association (CECPA).

Paul is survived by his beloved, Megan Andrews, and her son, Austin Stein of Erie; a sister, Pearl (William) Schmidt of Albion; a nephew, Michael (Melanie) Schmidt; a niece, Lisa Schmidt; and many wonderful friends whom Paul considered to be part of his family.

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 from 2 to 8 p.m. with a Panihida (prayer service) held at 1:30 p.m. and a Masonic service held at 7:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 25636 N. Mosiertown Rd., Crossingville, on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Daniel Mathewson officiating.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Shriners Hospitals for Children – Erie, 1645 W. 8th St, Erie, Pa., 16505 or The Central Erie County Paramedic Association (CECPA), P.O. I was shocked learning of Paul's death. I've known Paul since he was a paramedic in West County in the 80's and we worked together on many on many projects over the years. He was a champion of caring for people in need and would go to the ends of the earth in helping them. His humor and especially his very unique laugh would always brighten a room when he came in. Prayers for his family and beloved friends. Paul, your passing will leave a hole in many hearts. Rest in peace my friend.
