Ruth Lytle Obituary


Ruth (Tute) Erickson Lytle, 91, of Wesleyville, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in her home in the presence of several of her children after a nearly five year battle with cancer.

Born Lucille Jane Erickson to Frank Ravel and Mae (nee McKinley) Erickson near Toby, Elk County, Pa. August 31, 1924. The name Ruth Florence was used shortly after birth and officially changed after her graduation from Harbor Creek High School in 1942 and before employment at the General Electric Company, Lawrence Park, Pa.

Ruth married John A. Lytle at Messiah Lutheran Church in Wesleyville, Pa. on June 29, 1946. Ruth was nearly a lifelong resident of east Erie County having moved with her parents and siblings to Wesleyville at the approximate age of one year and then to Brookside, Pa. After marriage she and John lived in east Erie, Pa. and returned to Wesleyville in 1956. Ruth and John were married for 52 years until his death November 14, 1998.

In addition to raising seven children Ruth was the financial bookkeeper for the family business, Lytle Tool and Die Works, until retirement.

Ruth was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and of the GE Apprentice Alumni Auxiliary. Her favorite hobby was china painting. Many pieces are treasured by her family. She was also known among her family and close friends as a pie maker extraordinaire.

Survivors include five sons: Gregory Lytle and his wife Susan of San Jose, Calif., John Lytle and his wife Shelly of Sonora, Calif., Charles Lytle and his wife Jean of North East, Pa., Mark Lytle and his wife Susan of Conneaut, Ohio, B. Scott Lytle of Greenfield Township, Pa.; two daughters: Christine Wallace of Philomath, Ore. and Nancy Joseph and her husband Waldo of Los Gatos, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers: William Ray, George Rudolph (infant), and Ralph LaVerne Erickson; and one sister, Shirley Mae Donovan Woolery.

Friends will be received at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church at 11:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Jeffrey Piccirilli. Interment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Regional Home Health and Hospice, 2564 Village Common Dr., Erie, PA 16506.

Uncle Mark, Aunt Sue, Justin, Mia, Adam, Scott & Nancy. Your mother, grandmother was an amazing person. She had a wonderful life. I feel feel fortunate to have known her. I often think of her when I am baking or canning...especially my beets. She always said they were the best she ever had which was the greatest compliment I could have gotten.
