May you find comfort in your memories of a great man. I have known Steve since the days of Divine Word Seminary. He baptized our second child in 1979 and presided at our renewal of our wedding vows. A long friendship, a sweet loving man who truly lived a faith filled life. He will be greatly missed.

I unfortunately found out about Fr Steve's death just recently. I worked with him at Merchyhurst College for four years (1993-1997) with the Campus Minustry Department as well as had taken a theology class with him. He was the one who commissioned me as a Eucharistic Minister and lead so many of my most memorable retreats. Fr Steve truly furthered my spirituality with The Lord. He will truly be missed.

A genuine, good, real person. A man who truly loved being a priest. He touched so many with his kindness. He comforted so many with his words and now he will live in each of us through his spirit.
Rest in peace my friend. I was blessed to have you be a part of my life.

Father Steve,
What a great priest you were and a good friend, too. You certainly did fine work at Mercyhurst University and in all your assignments. Your celebration of Easter this year certainly was a true understanding of death and resurrection. You now enjoy the company of the Triune God and all the angels and saints. Pray for us who are left behind. We still need you.

I'd known Fr Steve since the 1960's during our days at Sacred Heart School. He was truly someone who lived his faith every day. He had a contagious smile, a big heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Special people touch our lives and leave us changed long after they have gone.

To All of Steve's Family: I offer my heartfelt prayers for all of you at this time of great loss. Steve and I were good friends, classmates, and neighbors for over 46 years. We attended high school at Divine Word and later at St. Mark's...we hung around growing up in Erie, and continued to remain friends all through our years of ministry. All who knew him were touched by his genuineness and compassion. He shared a relection at my Mom's funeral in 2009 for which I will always be grateful. Now his parents, his sister Mary, and brother Phil will keep him company until we all meet again. Thank you Steve for many years of friendship and support on the journey. I will truly miss you. Rest in Peace!

Sue, I was stunned when I read in the Erie Times that Father Steve had passed on. I had not realized he had not been well. We loved him at Our Lady of Peace Parish when he was assigned there. He patiently directed our couples' Bible Study Group for several years. Tom, Marlene and I made a beautiful "Renewal" weekend with Father Steve as Spiritual Director. He was such a very good Priest and a forever friend. I always picture him with a smile. He stepped into Heaven on the Feast of the Annunciation--the conception of Jesus. What a beautiful day to go to God. Pray for us, Father. "Have we told you lately that we love you." God bless you, Sue. You have our sympathy and our prayers. Love, Kay and Tom Weindorf

To Father Steve's family ~

Please accept my sincere sympathy regarding Fr. Steve's death. Altho' I knew he had been ill in recent years, seeing the announcement of his death was a shock to me...especially since I saw someone who resembled him earlier in the week! He had definitely been in the forefront of my mind!

So many nice things have already been expressed about Fr. Steve...and rightly so! I first met Steve over forty years ago when he was a young seminiarian at Divine Word Seminary in Girard. I was a teacher at St. John's School and a parishoner at his parish, Sacred Heart Church in Erie. One of the sisters at St. John's knew Steve from the Legion of Mary group she had helped form at the seminary. She told me about a seminarian from my parish and wondered if I could give him a ride home on Friday nights so he could spend the weekend with his family. And so began the beginning of our friendship as we traveled Rt. 20 from Girard to Erie each week. He was then what he has been throughout all these years...a very special person encompassing all the relationships mentioned in this Guest Book...son, brother, classmate, friend, priest, pastor, etc.

Your loss is great and I share in your sorrow, Sue and Paul. Knowing Steve's physical suffering is over and that he is now celebrating his new life with God and with other loved ones who have gone before him can be of comfort but can't erase the grief you are feeling. God knows this.... I pray that you will feel His love and presence in the days ahead through the love and support of friends and family - the love and support that Steve so often gave to people throughout his life.

My husband, John, and I offer you our love, thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
