Susan Comstock Obituary

Susan M. Markiewicz Comstock, 66, of Erie, passed away, following a brief illness, on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Saint Vincent Health Center, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 19, 1950, in Erie, a daughter of the late Chester and Laura Kornacki Markiewicz.

Susan was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Orthodontics and spent her career as an orthodontic assistant. She was a world traveler and had visited and lived in multiple countries throughout her life. Susan was a member of the St. Mary's Club. She was an avid runner and the "Iron Mom" of two. Susan loved spending time with her family and especially liked "being a kid" with her grandchildren. She was a voracious reader who also enjoyed gardening, camping and hanging with her gang.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother James Markiewicz and a sister Mary Lou Kasputis.

She is survived by her husband John D. Comstock of Erie; two sons, David M. Gadalla (Larisa), Carolina Beach, N.C. and Omar M. Gadalla (Joyce McCallum), Houston, Texas; two brothers, David Markiewicz of Erie and Thomas Markiewicz, Berwick, Pa.; one sister Ruth Kniowski (Dan) of Erie; and brother-in-law David Kasputis of Berwick, Pa. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Adeline Rae, Morgan Eloise, and Holden Omar Gadalla; and two nieces Carrie Kniowski, Mara Kasputis; and one nephew Kevin Kniowski.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorials may be made to the Erie Regional Library Foundation, Attn: Blasco Children's Department, 160 East Front Street, Erie, PA 16507.

John, Dave & Omar, I remember talking with Susan at Dave's 40th during the morning brunch which we needed from the night before at his party.
Now I know where Dave and Omar got their fitness motivations from, she was an inspiration for them and will be from now on I'm sure.
The picture of Susan in her younger days reminds me of my sister and how her hairdo was very similar which was a sixties style I believe, very stylish back then.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Mac Ramsay (Larisa's Dad)

To John, Dave and Omar. I never really got to talk much to Susan when our families were together until 2 years ago on Dave's 40th birthday she and I sat under the comport at Dave and Larisa's and had a wonderful conversation. I will always remember that and wish we could have had more. I didn't know she was a runner in her day but now it all makes since why Dave and Omar are Ironmen! What a great legacy. I'm sure now more than ever you think of her as you endure the race and know she's with you cheering you on.
Sorry we can't make the service but know that our prayers and thoughts are with you now and always.

Love,
Lonnie and Lil

to my sister sue...

I will be thinking of you especially at the campgrounds this summer. sitting around in the evening and telling... and re-telling! those stories of days that used to be. you've done a great job raising your boys to be fine men now... and your grandchildren will surely miss your experience and guidance. I know you love us all, and we do you as well.

travel well... and i know we'll meet again for a family reunion, (time and place to be yet determined!) where everyone will be happy and healthy as we once were.

looking forward to that gathering!

god bless...

I'm sorry to hear about Susan's passing. Prayers for healing for the family.
I remember one day about 20yrs ago walking into a orthodontic office in Lawrence Park and finding the initials "MB" on a small calendar. Initials that few people would recognize unless they were true fans. I was so excited to meet people in Erie that were crazy in love with the Moody Blues. I remember our first trip too see a concert together. I was so impressed that Omar enjoyed the Moody Blues, too. I always think of those days while listening to the Moody Blues. Their music will have even more special meaning to me now.
I feel very blessed to have known Susan. I loved her life story. She had so much courage and strength to do everything she could to give the best life she could to
David and Omar. She did a great job raising two young men. She was so proud of you David and Omar. She was a beautiful woman.

I look forward to seeing her again and I will be singing " Lovely to see you again."
by the "MB"

Blessings,

My deepest sorrows and condolences go to the Susan Markiewicz - Comstock family. It was an honor and privilege to have shared in the life of Susans. She was a warm and outgoing person and always made you feel as though you were her only best friend. May the days to come be filled with loving and caring thoughts of the joy and happiness that Susan gave all she meet, and that her family have wonderful and loving thoughts of her. May Gods love and blessings be with her family in this sad time

January 24, 2017

Dear John,

It is with deep sadness that I send my condolences to you and all of the family. You and Sue have been in my prayers through this journey and will continue to be. I will miss Sue and our chats out front, seeing her reading her books on the porch through the summer and going for her daily walks to get the newspaper at the corner. She would catch me up on her visits with her grand babies and how much she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was so proud of all of them.
Please let me know if I can help in any way with anything. God Bless you and keep you in His care.

Most sincerely,
Jan Larson
