Thomas Stewart Obituary

Thomas "Ozz" Stewart, age 62, of Erie, passed away on June 7, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Erie, on October 23, 1955, son of Paul Stewart and the late Esther Gabor Stewart.

A graduate of Harbor Creek High School, Ozz enlisted in the Army in the fall of 1976. His time in the service took him to Fort Ord in Monterey, California, where he spent any free time racing up and down the Pacific Coast Highway in his 1976 MGB convertible. The next stop took him overseas to Camp Casey, Korea, where he met his wife. Ozz finished his time in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, ultimately achieving the rank of Sergeant with an honorable discharge in June 1980, collecting a Letter and Certificate of Appreciation, Meritorious Service Award, Soldier Service Award, Army Commendation Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal along the way.

After returning home to Erie, Ozz resumed work at General Electric, where he worked on locomotives until he retired in 2011. A self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades (master of none), he earned an Associate's degree in architecture and enjoyed dreaming up home renovation designs and projects. He participated in various leagues over the years: softball, bowling, and darts. Other interests included music; he was an avid record collector and spent time playing in a few garage bands over the years with his treasured Fender Precision Bass (Rachel).

Ozz is survived by his father Paul, brothers and sisters Jim (Mary), Rob, Mary Ellen (Ron), Kathy, and Bill (Tammy), his wife Yong, and daughters Christine and Shelley.

A private memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Immediately following, friends and family will gather at the East Erie Moose Lodge, 6060 Iroquois Ave., Harborcreek, at 3:00 p.m.

The Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., is handling the arrangements.

I'm very sorry for the loss you have all suffered ...my name is Garth I'm originally from long island NY and now reside in Grove City PA and what led me here is my curiosity of what ever happened to the band HAFAST JACK? Is this the same Thomas Stewart that played bass keyboards etc back in 2001 on the self released Goin to the City album alongside Greg Hobson, Steve Newhard, Jerry Whitman?

Just found out from my Dad, whom most of you know as Uncle William, and I was so surprised as Tommy's just a few months older than me! I write, of course, to extend my condolences to everyone, Uncle Paul and all the family, and especially to Yong and Christine and Shelley. I appreciated the words of the obituary, and very much the choice of the photograph to accompany it. This captures the Tommy I knew from my childhood on the visits our family took "up home" where all we kids ran around together and had a great time. Blessings and comfort to you.

I always called you Ozz but I haven't seen you probably close to 20 years. I remember as a teenager when my mom worked at Fees Tavern you got me into darts. I worked 3rd shift and you worked 3rd shift at G.E. and we always played darts in the mornings at Fees but I wasn't old enough yet to join a league. You were kool to hangout with but we lost touch for a long time. I'm sorry I found you passed and much too early. R.I.P. old friend.

Awww Tommy, you're gone far too early! You stayed true to yourself, one of a kind, an original! You made high school bearable for me and then into my twenties. I have many fond memories of you and your family. Mr. Stewart, Jim, Rob, Mary Ellen, Kathy, and Biilll. I'm sooo sorry for your loss. Bruce
