Carl A. Dahler

Carl A. "PopPop" Dahler, Sr., 81, passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at home. He was the loving husband, for 59 years, of Catherine M. (Thompson) Dahler who died January 26, 2017.
Born March 9, 1935 in Baldwin, MD, he was the son of the late Andrew F. and Margaret G. (Coomes) Dahler.
"PopPop" Dahler was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Dahler was a member of the U.S. Air Force and the Maryland Air National Guard before being honorably discharged in 1959. Carl was employed as a heavy equipment operator in Maryland for a number of companies for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors including crabbing, fishing, hunting, four wheeling and camping and went on a cruise to the Bahamas and several trips to Canada.
Mr. Dahler is survived by five children, Carl A. Dahler, Jr. of McSherrystown, Daniel G. Dahler and his wife, Wanda of Glenville, Wayne M. Dahler and his wife, Evelyn of Hanover, Marvin L. Dahler and his wife, Cindy of Porters Sideling, and Alice Lovell and her husband, William of Hanover; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Carl Dahler will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Fred Mummert officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.

In the rather small amount of time that we spent together in this life, Carl was my brother, my friend and mentor to some degree while we worked together. He was a devoted husband and father and family member. His humor and understanding along with a serious attitude towards life were a good mix of qualities that I admire and respect. We will miss you.
