Charlene Markle Obituary

Charlene F. Markle
June 9, 1954 - December 11, 2017
Hanover
Charlene Faye Markle, 63, departed this life on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Genesis HealthCare, Gettysburg Center.
Born June 9, 1954 in Hanover, she was the daughter of Russel L. and Clare T. (Beranek) Markle of Fayetteville and formerly of Brushtown.
Charlene was a 1972 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown. Charlene had a fearless and independent spirit. Soon after graduating from Indiana University of PA with a B.A. in Sociology, she and her friend, Lisa, set off for a cross-country trip in an MG. They took the northern route to California and the southern route back to PA (after one breakdown in VA). Needless to say, her family was grateful for their safe return.
Charlene had an uncanny ability to pick out just the right gift for members of her family. She always put others first. She was especially generous in tipping waiters and waitresses, having been a waitress herself while in school. She loved flowers and if she was not buying flowers for her parents on special occasions she was planting them in her garden.
Charlene lived in Abiline, TX, Minneapolis, MN and Cincinnati, OH before moving back to the Hanover area.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two sons, Luke A. Sheaffer and Paul M. Sheaffer, both of Philadelphia; former husband, David Sheaffer of New Oxford; four siblings; Patricia Keffer and husband, Robert of Chambersburg, Sally Coble and companion, Greg Seifert of York, Joseph Markle and wife, Joyce of Spring Grove and Michael Markle and wife, Debbie of Newtown; nieces, Natalie and Deanna; and nephews, Matthew, Mark, Brendan and Christian. She was preceded in death by two infant sisters, Maryanna and Diane Marie Markle.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown ,with her nephew, Rev. Dr. Mark Keffer officiating. Friends and relatives will be received Wednesday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to the time of the service. Burial will follow at St. David Cemetery, Hanover.
Contributions in memory of Charlene may be made to TrueNorth Wellness Services, 625 W. Elm Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331 or VNA Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Charlene was always so kind to me. When I would visit Paul, there would always be a gift waiting for me from her. She was so thoughtful, and I will always remember her fondly.

My deepest sympathy to the Markle family and her sons, Luke & Paul. I remember Charlene from our high school years when life was innocent and full of fun. Charlene was a bright caring person with great artistic ability. I can still she her bright blue car. I am sure Holly, Charlene's best friend from high school, has already met up with her in heaven and they have rekindled the friendship. Rest in peace,Charlene, until we all meet again.
