Alice Gambill Obituary

Alice Frances Gambill, MD, recently of Tulsa, formerly of Stillwater, passed away on December 23, 2017. Alice was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Ladd and Eula Gambill and graduated as a proud Huskie from Pawhuska High School in 1941. She continued her education at Columbia College in 1943, then an all-female College in Columbia, Missouri and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma. Her interest in science and constant quest for knowledge lead her to OU Medical School where she would be one of only three women in the OU Medical School graduation class of 1949.
She began her medical career in private practice in Fort Worth, Texas but soon returned to OU for additional training in Anesthesiology. She practiced as an Anesthesiologist in Plainview, Texas, Oklahoma City (OU Medical School, the Veterans' Administration and Children's Hospitals) and at the University of Missouri Medical School in Columbia, Missouri.
Always interested in assisting people, Dr. Gambill volunteered her year of medical practice in 1970 to medical assistance at Planned Parenthood in Oklahoma City. She was honored to be listed in the Ninth Edition of "Who's Who of American Women" in 1975-1976 and received one of the highest honors from Columbia College when she was bestowed with their Professional Achievement Award in 1993.
After her retirement from private practice, Dr. Gambill moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma and practiced at the OSU Student Health Center. Always giving of herself, she was active in Altrusa, Women's Council, AIDS Education, Stillwater Literacy Council and as a volunteer at the Stillwater Public Library.
Family and friends all know that "Dr. Alice's" passion never waivered regarding Democratic politics, OSU football, current women's issues, animals and the environment. She enjoyed writing letters to the Editor ranging from newspapers to national magazines. Her sharpness was only matched by her natural wit and sense of humor. She always had a twinkle in her eye when she found humor in situations of the day.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Ladd and Eula Gambill; her sister, Marywayne Monnett; and brother-in-law, V. Brown Monnett, of Stillwater. She is survived by her son, Martin Hart of Tulsa, and daughter, Frances Hart of Stillwater. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Inverness Village, Heather Hall and Inverness at Home Staff. Special beloved thanks to Joyce, Andrea, Courtney, Dawni, Parthena and Trina for their kind, loving support and care to Dr. Alice the last 3 years.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018, 2:00PM, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

Alice was a special friend of my mother, Joan Fleming. She thought very highly of Dr Alice!
She even delivered my brother and I while she lived in Ft Worth. What a sweetheart and treasured person in our family. Rest in Peace .
