Cleo Beougher Obituary

Cleo Beougher passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012. Cleo was born August 20, 1932, in Grinnell, Kansas, the son of Benjamin C. and Virgie B. (Simpson) Beougher. He graduated from high school in Parsons, Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Fine Arts.
While he was in high school he met the love of his life, Garry Lu Garr, and they were married in 1951 while he was attending KU and have been happily married for over 60 years.
Cleo began his career at Phillips Petroleum in 1955 as a Corporate Designer/Art Director. He retired in 1992 having remained in Bartlesville his entire career. He enjoyed painting in watercolor and oil mediums as a hobby. He volunteered in Cub Scouts and in youth sports, especially swimming, basketball and baseball. In 1964, he coached the Little League baseball team that advanced to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, one of only two teams from Oklahoma to ever reach that level. Cleo stayed personally competitive in basketball and volleyball at Phillips Petroleum until retirement. He enjoyed camping and fishing and he and Garry traveled extensively in their motor home attending their grandchildren's activities. They took many trips abroad which included visiting friends and family in Europe.
He loved his family very deeply and left them with many wonderful memories. He was affectionately referred to as "Crappaw" by our family who loved him.
Cleo was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the Homebuilders Sunday School Class. Cleo and Garry had a passion for missions and served on a Volunteer In Mission Team to Utuado, Puerto Rico in 1990.
Cleo is survived by wife, Garry, and sons, Kent Beougher of Owasso, OK, and Gregg Beougher of Flower Mound, TX, daughter, Penny Beougher Griffin and husband, Terry of Bartlesville, and daughter, Lauri Beougher Pollock and husband, Javier of Bartlesville, sisters, Leona Bennett, Clarice Neil, and Donna Ashlock, grandchildren, Heather Callazzo, Brooke Beougher, Blayr Gourley, Kail Beougher, Jason Carlson, Becca Beougher, Katy Griffin, and Jared Pollock, and great grandchildren, York Bales, and Aydan and Trystan Callazzo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clifford Beougher; his brother, Ron Beougher, and his beloved grandson, Kelsey Griffin.

Garry and Family. I'm sorry that I did not know Cleo before he became ill. He must have been a wonderful husband, father, and person. Your family was a tremendous testimony of love, for Cleo and others even during such a difficult time. You encouraged me and brightened my difficult days. I grew to love you during my visits with my mother, LaVina Rivers. Thank you so much! I am praying that you will be enveloped by God's loving arms during the days ahead. Thank you, Lord, for bringing these lovely people into my life.

I always appreciated Mr. Beougher's gracious but competitive spirit. I believe it's how we all should compete in the sporting arena as well as life. Didn't mind losing to Mr. Beougher's teams and equally enjoyed playing alongside Kent and Gregg in Bartlesville. Mr. Beougher, you lived the life of a champion. God must be pleased. My condolences to the family.
