Ferne Comstock Obituary

Mrs. Ferne Lorea Comstock, age 99, a resident of Burgandy Place in Tulsa, passed away on September 17, 2009.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Comstock will be conducted by the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Bartlesville. Final committal rights will be accorded her on the family plot of the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville under the direction of Reverend Cathy Hamrick, pastor of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Bixby. A memorial for Mrs. Comstock has been established with the Saint Francis Hospice Group, Tulsa. Donations should be mailed to: Hospice and Palliative Care Services, Saint Francis Health System, 6600 S. Yale Ave., Suite 350, Tulsa, OK 74136.
Mrs. Comstock will lie in state for visitation in the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Born in Beaver County, Oklahoma, on February 27, 1910, Ferne was the daughter of the late Stephen and Dottie Mendenhall. She was reared and educated in Wichita, Kansas.
She was married to the late Earl E. (Gene) Comstock on December 9, 1934. They made their residence in Bartlesville in 1937 when Gene joined the Phillips Petroleum Company as an engineer.
Ferne was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Bartlesville. She was active for many years with the Girl Scouts of America, serving on the Executive Council and Board of Directors, camp committee chairman, and troop leader. Her creative talents were shared with many through her participation in the Han-dee Hobby Club. Ferne also provided creative support to her husband during his years as member and officer of the Oklahoma Professional Engineers Association.
In addition to her husband, Ferne was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Comstock Corzine and a brother, Glen Mendenhall.
Survivors include one son, Larry Comstock and his wife, Marilyn, of Plano, TX, two daughters, Kay King, Tulsa, Karen Boles, Tulsa and son-in-law, Robert Corzine, Ridgecrest, CA. Grandchildren are: Christy Dennis, Weed, CA, Kerry Comstock, Napa, CA, Brian King, Tulsa, Kayla Garrett, Tuscaloosa, AL, Ty Boles, Dallas TX, Kelly Byrd, Glenpool, OK, Shellie Boles, Dallas, TX, Andy Corzine, Ridgecrest, CA and Kerri Burks, Cary, NC. Great-grandchildren are: Anne and Sam King; Will and Jared Byrd: Benjamin and Maria Comstock.
