Sylvia Yvonne (London) Bentley
Bartlesville -
Sylvia Yvonne (London) Bentley, 83, passed away at 11:00 pm on Sunday in the ER of the JPMC. Sylvia was born August 21, 1937 in Seagraves, TX. She was the daughter of John Vineyard London, II and Martha Emalea (Myers) London. During her youth, the London family moved to Groom, TX where she was reared and received her education. She graduated from the Groom High School with the Senior Class of 1955. She attended Abilene Christian College from which she graduated with a degree in elementary education. She was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. On 11/26/1960 she and Merlin Elwood Bentley were married in Groom, TX and they made their home in Borger, TX until 1966. The Bentleys were later transferred to Bartlesville where they continued raising their family, but she never lost her love for TEXAS! Mr. Bentley retired in 1991, and since that time they have lived in retirement in Bartlesville. Sylvia and Elwood enjoyed traveling domestically, and also traveled to Hawaii and Ireland. The Ireland trip was in many ways the trip of her life. She constantly talked about how much she loved that trip. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past November 2020. Sylvia was steadfast in her love for God. She and Elwood were very involved at Adams Boulevard Church of Christ in teaching classes, hosting the singles ministry, and participating in World Bible School. Elwood was an Elder for several years, and Sylvia supported him in this commitment. She loved her family unconditionally and was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandson. Her love of music began in her youth. When she was in high school, she was part of a music ensemble named "The Country Cousins". She played piano and sang beautifully, and she had an enduring love for the music of Elvis Presley. Sylvia's favorite color was red. She had it splashed all over the walls of her kitchen, her accessories and decor. She wore red clothes almost every day and loved her bright red lipstick. She was very social, loved people, and was a consummate hostess. She loved celebrating her friends and family to the very end of her life. Surviving her are her husband, Elwood Bentley of the home; three daughters Melanie Elaine Young; Susan Yvette Weaver and husband Keith, Garland, TX; and Marta Elizabeth Bentley, Bartlesville; one son, Scott London Bentley and wife Deborah, Edmond, OK; eight grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; one sister, Sandra Black, Amarillo, TX; two brothers, John London III, Amarillo, TX; and Jack London, Austin, TX. Preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Victoria Corinne Young. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 6-8 pm at Stumpff Funeral Home.
