GREGORY BRIAN MCSWAIN Gregory Brian McSwain, affectionately known as Greg, passed away on September 4, 2023, in Blue Springs, Mo. Born on March 17, 1966, in Springfield, Mo., Greg lived a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience. Greg had an impressive career, dedicating many years of his life to working at Grainger. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Colleagues and friends admired his determination and unwavering dedication to his craft. Beyond his professional achievements, Greg had a deep love for his family and community. He was a devoted husband to Kelli McSwain and a loving father to their son Zachary. Greg's passion for supporting others shone through in his role as a coach for both his brothers' basketball and baseball teams and his son's basketball teams. Countless children have benefited from his guidance and mentorship on the field. Every Friday night was a special occasion for Greg and Kelli as they would share their love of Mexican food together. Their cherished weekly tradition allowed them to unwind from the demands of daily life while reinforcing their bond as partners. Greg had a hidden talent that not many knew about - an affinity for writing. Despite keeping this passion close to his heart, he expressed himself eloquently through words. Whether crafting heartfelt letters or documenting his love for Kelli through poetry wrote just for her, Greg's skillful command of language revealed the depth of his introspection. Education played an essential role in Greg's life journey. He graduated from Truman High School in 1984 before furthering his studies at Southwestern Community College in Iowa, where he earned an associate's degree. His thirst for knowledge extended beyond the classroom walls - Greg's voracious appetite for reading and researching all subjects showcased his intellectual curiosity. Greg will be remembered as a fighter who approached challenges with unwavering courage. As the oldest brother of three siblings, he took on the role of protector and nurturer. His ornery yet endearing personality added a touch of humor to every interaction, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. A man of strong faith, Greg found solace and guidance in his spirituality. This foundation provided him with strength during difficult times and allowed him to be a source of support for others. His heartfelt prayers and unwavering belief inspired those around him, bringing light to their darkest moments. Outside of his professional and familial responsibilities, Greg cultivated several hobbies and interests. He found tranquility in nature through fishing, hunting, and the thrill of mushroom hunting. Additionally, his love for reading allowed him to delve into various subjects, showcasing his vast knowledge and intellectual prowess. Gregory Brian McSwain leaves behind a legacy of love that will be forever cherished by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Kelli, their son Zachary, brothers Scott (Kimberly) and Todd (Audrey) McSwain; uncle, Dave Flood; aunt, Jeanne (Sid) Carpenter; cousins, Nick (Andee) Flood and their children, Marcus (Karie) Flood and their children, CeCe Flood, and children; mother-in-law, Louise Crawford; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Richardson and her daughter Amy Foster, Lisa (Kirk) Willms and their children, Kyle Willms and Cameron Willms and Stacey Kessler and her children David Jacob Lankton and Reece Kessler; many great-nephews and one great-niece; and a large extended family and many dear friends. In this time of grief, Greg's family finds solace in knowing that he has reunited with loved ones who preceded him in death. Among them are his baby daughter, Rachel Marie McSwain; his parents, Harold Wayne and Carol McSwain; grandparents, Harold and Freda Flood; paternal grandparents, Harold and Ruby McSwain; aunt, Becky Flood; uncle, Larry McSwain; cousin, Eric Flood; as well as his father-in-law, Kenneth Crawford and brother-in-law, Gary Kessler. Greg's memory will be honored through a series of services. The visitation will take place on September 10, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel located at 18020 East 39th St. S. in Independence, Mo. A Mass celebrating Greg's life will be held on September 11, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Church of Santa Fe Parish at 231 S. Sibley St. in Buckner, Mo. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest at Buckner Hill Cemetery, located at 1450 S. Buckner Tarsney Rd., Buckner. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Church of Santa Fe Parish in Buckner.
