KENNETH RALPH SCAFE

1936 - 2024

Kenneth Ralph Scafe, 88, was born on March 30, 1936, in Black River Falls, Wis., the middle son of Clarence Charles and Helen Irene (Inderbo) Scafe where he was baptized into RLDS Church by his grandfather, Horace Scafe. He passed away on October 20, 2024, in Independence, Mo., after a short hospital stay and six days at The Groves Rosewood Health Center in Independence.
The family moved to Everett, Wash., when he was 10 and he graduated from high school excelling in all sports. He attended Graceland College for two years and graduated from Drake University in 1958 as a member of their Sun Bowl football team and the golf team with double majors in Economics and Industrial Management.
He married Carolyn Irene Sackman at Walnut Park RLDS Church in August of 1957. They lived in California, Washington, Iowa, Texas and Missouri, where they have resided for many years preceding his passing.
He worked in both the fields of business and education, earning three graduate degrees along the way and establishing Center Stake Restoration School with Dr. John A. Smith. He had been a priesthood member since he was 16, and was a lay pastor in Creston, Iowa, for 10 years.
Kenneth was also a handyman, building and remodeling several homes for his own family and also facilities for his church family. He enjoyed farming, spending time at the lake, golfing and working on vehicles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Gayle, in January 2024, as well as his beloved in-laws, Vernon and Violet Sackman.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a younger brother, Dennis Scafe (Meri) of Lake Stevens, Wash., his wife, Carolyn, and four children, Marcia Harms (Rick) of Eugene, Ore., Robin Myers (Dean) of Blue Springs, Mo., Lisa Havens of Independence, Matthew Scafe (Tanya) of Round Rock, Texas, and exchange student, Gemma Sanchez, of Madrid, Spain; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Vernon Sackman and his family of Shaker Heights, Ohio.
Services will be held at The Everlasting Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Day, Hidden Creek Branch, 14480 E 42nd St., Independence, MO 64055 on Friday, November 29, 2024, with a visitation preceding the 2 p.m. Memorial Service.
