Dewey Strother Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Dewey Kernard Strother, 89, of Fayetteville, died Monday, May 10, 2010, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. Strother was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, as well as the owner and operator of an electrical company for 25 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010, in Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Cook officiating. Entombment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the church gathering hall. Mr. Strother is survived by his wife, Sylvia Matthews Strother of the home; four sons, Larry Strother and wife Denise of Fayetteville, Kenneth Strother and wife Laura of Fayetteville, Michael Strother Sr. and wife Wanda of Fayetteville and Jerry Strother of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Sharon Strother and husband David Newberry of Cary, and Tammy Boykin and husband Len of Wendell; two stepsons, Windell Horne and wife Paula of Hope Mills, and Rufus Horne Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Hope Mills; a stepdaughter, Kathy McPhail of Fayetteville; a sister, Mildred Perry of Zebulon; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 5301 Morganton Road, Fayetteville, NC 28314; or to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Westmont Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28305. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
