I knew Sgt Sheppard as one of the best NCO's I ever served with. No nonsense and get the job done was his mission. It may sound like nonsense to some, but I believe Jimmy is in a better place now. I wish his family nothing but the best.
God Rest You Jim. May you rest in peace.

I had the privilege and honor of serving with Jimmy in Vietnam 1966-67. We were in the Imagery Interpretation Section, 1st Brigade (Separate), 101st Airborne Division. He never sugar coated anything and always told it like it was. While flying on an aerial reconnaissance mission as an aerial observer in an L19, the aircraft was hit by hostile ground fire which killed the pilot. Jimmy calmly took the stick and returned the aircraft safely to the airfield. For this action, he was awarded the Air Medal with ā€œVā€ device for Valor. My thoughts and prayers go with you Jimmy.

I served with Jimmy in the 218th MI Det. He was an Airborne All The Way guy and I know his family will miss him. I wish I could attend the viewing, but will be heading to Indiana tomorrow. Art McRoberts

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of one the nicest 'gruff' men I have ever met. We at Wade Family will miss him dearly.
I will definitely send a check in his name immediately to a cause I greatly support - the wounded warrior project.
