Francis Flint Obituary

Flint, Francis Herbert

Francis Herbert Flint, Cape Coral Fla., formerly of Fond Du Lac, Wis. and Idaho Falls, Idaho, went home to the Lord on May 30, 2012. He was born March 24, 1924 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a son of Frederick and Emma Ellen Flint. He married the love of his life, Olive (Ivy) Georgi, on September 12, 1953. Fran was a veteran of World War II, serving as combat medic in HQ Trp, 93rd Cavalry, 13th Armored Division of the 3rd Army Europe. He graduated with an undergraduate degree from Redlands University and a graduate degree of psychology from George Williams College. Fran started his career as a YMCA director in Toledo, Ohio and then in Big Springs, Tex. He and his family moved to Eden, Wis. in 1963, where he worked as a social worker for the State of Wisconsin and a coordinator at Workshops, Inc in Fond du Lac, Wis. The best years of Fran's life were devoted to working with people with mental illness and developmental disabilities and the elderly. He gave leadership, with the help of the community, in developing assisted living group homes, the Franklin House and Lincoln House. He was instrumental in developing the Vocational Assessment Center in Fond du Lac. Writing was Fran's avocation. With the assistance of his wife, Ivy, he wrote several books of spiritual essays and inspirational thoughts and a weekly Christian Witness for the Fond du Lac Reporter. The Sisters of St. Agnes were special friends of Fran and Ivy's. They provided financial assistance for a number of community projects initiated by Fran and Ivy. Fran taught his family the love of nature through their camping trips and travel. Fran's Christian faith has influenced and guided all aspects of his life. He continued to share God's love and message of salvation throughout his last days. Fran and Ivy spent the last two years of his life in Cape Coral, Fla. so they could be close to their family.

Survivors include his wife, three children, Steve (Gilbert), Austin, Tex.; Nancy Hoppe (Mark), Cape Coral, Fla.; and Jane (Terry Cullen), Milwaukee, Wisc.; two grandchildren, April Naughton (Ben) and Jason (Jessie) Hoppe; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil (Carla), Lewis Lyle (Doris) and Donald (Nancy). He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter (Ann Marie), four brothers and two sisters.

There will be a memorial service held at Memorial Baptist Church, Fond du Lac, Wis. on July 13, 2012 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army - Fond du Lac, Wis.

Dear Ivy, Jane, Steve, and Nancy, we've shared so many many beautiful fond memories with Fran ... you are all like a second family to me ... the memories that stand out most in my mind are many family nights spent in Eden sharing dinner and conversation together, singing around the piano, camping and fishing at Baigley Rapids, the Apostle Islands, swimming at Round Lake, Terry Andre State Park, Long Lake, in Colorado and Big Spring and in Fond du Lac ... and year after year of Christmas, New Years, Birthday, Anniversary celebrations. Fran will most definitely be missed. Healing prayers and love go out to you all, and may you all be blessed with the comforting support of God's angels.

Our heart goes out to you, Ivy and all your family at this time. We've been blessed by both you and Fran in many ways. Fran encouraged both Don and I through the many years w've known you in Fond du Lac. So glad we came to visit you when we were in Florida. May GOD'S love comfort you and we can all cherish the many memories we have now of Fran. Fran will be missed. He is now with the LORD and that was always what he looked forward to. We Love you.
