Joan S. Schatzke

Fond du Lac - Joan S. Schatzke, 85, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Maple Meadows. She was born January 20, 1933 in Menasha, daughter of Francis Sr. and Mary (Dzain) Kierstyn. When she was 2 ½ years old her family moved to a farm at Grand Marsh, Adams County, where she went to school and graduated from Adams Friendship High School. After graduation she worked three years at Badger Ordnance as a lab tech.

On May 4, 1955 she married Harley B. Schatzke in Iowa. They had one son, Jeffrey. They moved from Grand Marsh to Eldorado for three years, then to Fond du Lac in May of 1959 when they bought their home. Joan worked 17 ½ years at Kresge's until the store closed in April of 1981. Then she did home care and worked for Riverview Apartments.

She is survived by one son, Jeffrey and his fiancé, Angie Birkholz; one sister, Dorothy McMahon; two brothers, John (Karen) Kierstyn and Francis Jr. (Pat) Kierstyn; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kierstyn and Judy Kierstyn; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley in September of 1986; one sister, Dolores (Joe) Eskau; two brothers, James and Eugene; sister-in-law, Judy Kierstyn; and brother-in-law, Owen McMahon.

The visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11:00 AM on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church, Holy Family Parish. Burial will be held in St. Methodious Cemetery in Adams County.
