former longtime resident
of Melrose, MA
LEOMINSTER - David Pingree Wallstrom, a resident of Leominster and former longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family's love on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at HealthAlliance Hospital in Leominster, at age 79.
Dave was born in Stoneham, on July 15, 1938, one of two children of the late George E. Wallstrom and Gladys A. (Pingree) Wallstrom. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1956, and from his beloved Bates College in 1960. Dave worked for First National Bank of Boston, as a systems analyst for several years and in the student loan industry later in his career.
Dave was a sweet, heartfelt man with a great sense of humor. He always wanted to make everyone happy with a joke or a few lines from a favorite song. A music lover, Dave had a vast music collection and could sing any number of his favorite country tunes from the likes of Hank Snow, the Everett Brothers and Hank Williams. He also had a love for Broadway music, swimming, stamp collecting, playing Bridge and trains.
A man of deep faith, Dave was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, in Melrose where he enjoyed singing in the Choir and weekly bible studies. After living in Melrose most of his life, he relocated to Leominster in 2008 to be closer to family. With a genuine interest in making others happy, Dave was a well-liked and active presence at Leominster Crossings, Manor on the Hill and the Life Care Center of Leominster.
Most of all, Dave's family and his friends meant the world to him. He delighted in seeing his grandchildren, had a song ready for everyone and loved going out for dinner especially for his favorite meal, Fettuccini Alfredo. Dave will be missed, but always remembered.
David was the devoted father of Steven M. Wallstrom of Pembroke and Deborah L. Perrault and her husband Jacques of Leominster. Caring brother of Natalie Stenseth and her husband Darrell of Kirkland, WA. Loving "Papa" to Ethan, Kaitlyn, Kylie and Emma Perrault of Leominster and uncle to Eric Stenseth of Monroe, WA.

While I haven't seen David in many years, I remember him fondly from holiday meals and family get togethers in North Hampton, NH. Our grandparents, his grandfather and my grandmother, married after the deaths of their spouses. I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

David, we will always love you and miss you. We remember you as a caring, devoted brother, son and father. There are so many wonderful memories we had together as a family: growing up in Melrose, MA, of good times at Papa and Bertha's in N. Hampton, NH, and many summers shared at the farm in S. Bridgton, ME with mother and dad. We are lucky to have had such wonderful parents and a childhood full of love and great experiences. All these memories will live on in my heart.

Dave and I were roommates at Bates College. He was very studious and enjoyed playing trumpet in the Bobcat marching band. Following graduation, we frequently visited over the telephone, and a few years ago we enjoyed lunch together at Boston's Logan Airport. Dave will be deeply missed, and I offer condolences to his family.
