DELTONA, Fla. -- Douglas Dike, 72, of Deltona, Fla., formerly of Needham, Mass., and seasonal residences in Westminster, Mass., and Deltona, Fla., died Sunday, April 4.
He was born in Yarmouth, Mass., on July 18, 1931, the son of Donald and Hattie (Ellis) Dike. He spent all his life in Athol and was a graduate of Athol High School
Mr. Dike served in the U.S. Army as a private first class serving in Germany during the Berlin airlift. Upon his discharge from the Army he attended the School of Television and Radio Broadcasting.
At the time of his death Mr. Dike was retired, but had spent most of his career in television at WCVB Channel 5 for 38 years as an engineer.
He had resided in Needham and Gardner, Mass., areas and had been a summer resident of Westminster and a winter resident of Deltona.
An avid golfer, Mr. Dike had memberships at Needham Golf Club and Garden Golf Club. Besides his love of golf, he also enjoyed gardening.
He was a member of the Benevolent Protector of Elks of Deltona and a life member of the VFW of Westminster.
Mr. Dike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary (Foote) Dike of Westminster and Deltona; two sons, Donald M Dike and his wife, Donnam of Leominster, Mass., and Douglas M. Dike and his wife, Lori, of Easton, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Ashley, Hannah and Douglas; two sisters, Dorcas Morse of Manchester, N.H., and Dorothy Doucette of Deltona; and a brother, David Dike of Williamsburg, Va.
DIKE -- On April 4, Douglas Dike, 72, of Deltona, Fla. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton, Mass. Relatives and friends kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association.
