As I write in this guess book, I reflect on the memories of Popeye, Joe, Mr. Robinson, The Plumber brothers and a host of others who made Fitchburg home. In my travels since I left Fitchburg, I have met a lot of people who was station at Fort Devens and had visited Fitchburg during their stay at fort devens and the majority of them remember Popeye.
I can remember when Norma Jean and Popeye were married and how happy Popeye looked that day. As others have said, I still remember Popeye playing softball and how on Sunday afternoon, all of the men would get together and play sandlot football and return to green street bar and talk about the game they just played. Popeye was a very talented athlete and Archie, Wayne, Earnest and I would later try and follow his footsteps. Little did he know that he had little brothers on the side watching him and ready to take over the helm when our turn came.
I am sure that Popeye will be greatly missed; again as I read what others have written about him, I see that the inheritance he left and that is one of love for family and friends. My sister Cindy made a statement that is true and that is every time I came to Fitchburg, I always asked about Popeye, he was our land mark and a sigh that we were home.
To the family I would like to leave my condolences and want you to know that you are in my prayers. My email is [email protected].
May God continue to Bless this family as they go through this trail of life and the loss of a love one. Frazier Jr.

I WAS SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR LOSS. MY MEMORIES OF FITCHBURG WILL ALWAYS BE OF POPEYE, NORMA (WALKER FAMILY) AND ALL THOSE WHO MADE UP THE SMALL AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY DURING THE SIXTIES. WHEN POPEYE AND NORMA WERE MARRIED, I WAS HER MAID OF HONOR. THEY BOTH HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT YOUR FAMILY IS COMFORTED BY THE HOPE THAT GOD'S WORD PROVIDES (Rev 21:3,4) AND PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS.

May the peace of God keep your hearts and minds. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Please know that Popeye was a man that touched many of people. He was one of the first people that my family meet, when we moved to Fitchburg., back in 1965. He was a friend to my whole family, even thought he was my brother Lester and sister Sue age. My parents Buck and Ella-Jane loved him as one of their own. Popeye alway had kind spirit. There are many people who are not with us today, who loved him all their days. (Mr. Collins & Ms Doris) Big Mary. We send our love. The Andersons and Collins family. Popeye will never be forgotten.

He was the first man to ever take up for me. I loved walking into the bar on north street and seeing him smile. I will never forget him. He was a uncle and a friend. REST IN PEACE.

My entire family send our deepest sympathy and condolences to all those who loved and cared for uncle Popeye. My dad "Sonny" also played baseball and professional football with uncle Pops. I loved to go to the games when I was little. Sonny and uncle Pops were a hell of a pair back in the day. Usually in the "dog house" with the wives. ha, I will miss you deeply. To my cousins: remember the good times and keep his spirit alive with those memories. I love you all and God Bless.

Sorry to hear of your recent loss, I know he will be missed. "Popeye" and my family goes back a long time, I have a lot of fond memories of Popeye. It never fails that when I hear the song "Caribbean Queen" I can see him dancing with one side of his shoulders dropped, snapping his fingers and stepping, that slow step he took when he knew that he looked good! (ha!) Now he can dance without all the pain and suffering he had to endure! He's with a lot of his friends and smiling down on all of us! May God Bless you all in this time of sorrow but rest assured that Popeye is in a better place with out pain and suffering.

My deepest condolences to Pop's family. He was my coach when I was playing softball for Roy's Cafe. Playing for him was something I'll never forget. We were the adult version of the "Bad News Bears" and despite this, Pop never lost his enthusiasm.
