Janice 81 Obituary
TOWNSEND : Janice E. (Lovell) Mattila, 81, of Townsend, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Born in Clinton on June 11, 1940, Janice was one of three daughters, born to the late Orin F. and Alice M. (Bingham) Lovell.
Janice was Valedictorian of Townsend High School, class of 1958. She was active in the United Methodist church as an organist and choir member, among other activities. She was active in the West Townsend First Baptist church in many ways; including music and leadership, and Pioneer Girls with her two daughters. In addition, she was very involved with the Town meeting and was Chair of the Townsend Cable Commission. She enjoyed painting with oils and acrylics, gardening and being outdoors. Janice lovingly cared for her son James for 34 plus years after his accident. When it came to her children, she would do almost anything for them. In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by her husband, John O. Mattila; her son, James W. Mattila, and her sister, Nancy Benoit; son-in-law, Paul A. Craig. Janice is lovingly survived by her daughters, Valerie E. Craig of Kingston, NY; Sally (Mattila) Pardo, and her husband Jason Pardo of Holiday, FL; her son, Eric Mattila of Greenville, NH; her sister, Susan Lovell of Jaffrey, NH; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Janice's Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM in T.J Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main Street, Townsend. A Memorial Visitation period will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, prior to the service.
