JAMES WHITTAKER Obituary

James Robert Whittaker - Palm Bay - James R. Whittaker, 61, of Palm Bay, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home. James Robert Whittaker was born January 15, 1949 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The son of James Arthur Whittaker and Mary Key Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker, a Corporal, was a highly decorated, combat wounded Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, earning two Bronze Stars, and a Silver Star for "Actions above and beyond the call of duty". He was also the recipient of two Purple Hearts as a result of his combat injuries. "Jim", as he was known to family and friends, was very patriotic and very proud of his service to the United States through the Marine Corps. After returning home from the war he worked for Rockwell Collins until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and a resident of Brevard County since the late 1950's. James Robert Whittaker was a graduate of Melbourne High School and a member of Central Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Andrews Whittaker; and an infant brother, Raymon Wayne Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker is survived by his son, James H. Whittaker; a sister, Margaret (Dan) Kane; a nephew, Marvin Tallent of Palm Bay; and many other extended relatives and close friends, he will be dearly missed. A Memorial service with Military honors will be con ducted at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Leroy Williams officiating.
