Titusville

Larry E. Thompson, 76, of Titusville, passed away Aug 7, 2016. Born in Macedonia, Ohio, Larry moved to Florida in 1961 after graduation from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio. For three years he worked for various aerospace companies until he joined NASA in 1964 and worked on the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle programs. During his time with NASA he was involved with astronaut training, the astronaut quarters at KSC, Space Shuttle Program planning and Orbiter Logistics. He retired from NASA in 1994 after 30 years of service. He received a Master of Science degree from Florida State University in 1971. Larry's interests included private flying, power boating, sailing, SCUBA diving and photography. He was a volunteer at the Space Walk of Fame in Titusville.

He is survived by his wife, Murray (Tiny); two sons, Garrett and Scott; and three grandchildren, Megan, Kara and Michael.  Garrett made the USAF a career as a fighter pilot and is now a commercial airline pilot.  Scott became a well-known comedian, Carrot Top. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gladys, and his sister, Elaine Kolk. No public service is planned.
