William F. Feger, Jr.

New Smyrna Beach, FL

William F. Feger, Jr. of New Smyrna Beach, died Monday, December 16 at home. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Feger was a lifetime resident of New Smyrna Beach area.

After graduating from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1949, Mr. Feger then served four years with the United States Coast Guard, and was awarded the Bronze Life Saving Medal. He returned to New Smyrna Beach to be a firefighter for four years. His next job was a missile firefighter at Cape Canaveral, where he worked for 44 years. He was also a lifeguard, first serving as captain in New Smyrna Beach, and then starting life guard services in Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, and Eau Gallie. His other significant activity was the family business, Feger Seafood, with its fleet of shrimp boats. Mr. Feger was a loyal member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of New Smyrna Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Emma; two sons, William F. Feger III of New Smyrna Beach and Steven J. Feger of Edgewater; six grandchildren, William F. Feger IV of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Emma Jeanette Norcia of Ormond Beach, Janelle Nicole North of Aztec, New Mexico, Amber Lee Bage and Kalyn Nicole Wood, both of Fort Worth, Texas, and Joshua Dylan Feger of Edgewater; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Reverend Deke Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, Edgewater. There will then be a reception at St. Paul's Church parish hall. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Settle-Wilder New Smyrna Beach Chapel.

Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1650 Live Oak Street, New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32168.

My condolences to the Feger Family. Miss Emma and Bill watch me run around the dock(Fegers Seafood), as a small child while my mother Joanne worked on Saturdays. He was always very humble and gracious to me.
