Karen Hall Sexton, RN, Ph.D., age 62, of Lexington, Ky., wife of Donald L. Sexton, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the UK Medical Center, Lexington, Ky. She was born June 8, 1952 in McDowell, Ky., a daughter of the late Adrian and Olive Rose Turner Hall.
Karen was of the Baptist Faith and a Hospital Administrator, she received many accomplishments during her career which include being recognized as Top 50 Alumni in the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky, receiving the American Hospital Association Texas Grassroots Champion Award, the National Service Award for Leadership during 2005 Hurricane Rita Hospital Evacuation from the National Congress for Secure Communities, the 2007 Leadership Award from Sigma Theta Tau International-Alpha Delta Chapter, Outstanding Alumna from Eastern Kentucky University, she was presented with a Key to the City of Austin, Texas from the Mayor of Austin, the Leone Award for Excellence in Leadership from UTMB and the Recognition in Leadership Award from the School of Nursing, UTMB.
In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by one son, Travis Ryan (Samantha Jo) Sexton, Lexington, Ky.; one daughter, Megan Adrienne (Antonio) Hernandez, Franklin, Tenn.; two brothers, Rick Hall, Richmond, Ky., Donnie Hall Huntington, W. Va.; one sister, Sandra Stevens, Vista, Calif.; three grandchildren, Madeline Rose, Nico and Gaby Hernandez.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lucy Hall Cemetery, McDowell, Ky. Visitation is from 6 until 10 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home.

I remember Karen from my time working at the cancer center at UKMC from 1986-1992. I'm sorry to hear this news. I always liked Karen. My heart is deeply saddened and I pray God will comfort her dear family and friends during this time.

Karen impacted all lives she touched. That was many. I remember when she left UK for another position - it was a big loss to the nurses. She was a special person, mentor, and instructor. I am so sorry for your loss.

A very nice lady and a nurse's nurse. She is a saint among nurses and was always about the profession of nursing and what was best for patients. She could also give great advice and understand the stress that we sometimes faced. RIP good lady.
