David was born on November 2, 1936 in Lyons N.Y., son of the late Ludwig (Ted) and Wilma (Cummings) Voigt. He graduated from Geneva High School and attended Oswego State University.

David retired after 40 years from New York State Gas & Electric Company. Time spent at his family's restaurant gave him the passion to cook and bake. He loved spending time with family at the lake, hunting in Himrod, and using his homemade wine to bring everyone together for laughs, memories, and great times. David had a passion for archery, his precision skills and craftsmanship brought people far and near to his shop connected to his home. In the Voigt wine cellar, David turned into the master wine maker. His passion for making wine has extended beyond his wine cellar, passing down his skills to his children and grandchildren. Seneca lake being a second home to David, he spent summers pulling copper with his father and cruising in the old lyman inboard wooden boat. Hosting clam bakes surrounded by family and enjoying the sunshine were his favorite ways to spend his time and have left his family with unforgettable memories. His great smile, thoughtfulness, and ability to connect with everyone he met were his greatest attributes.

David was predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Wilma; brothers, Richard Voigt and Robert Voigt.

He is survived by his beloved wife Suzanne of 65 years; children, Deb (Stuart) Messur of Syracuse, Chrissy Voigt McHale of Geneva, and David (Joanna) Voigt of Farmington; grandchildren, Ashley Messur, Alexandra (Ryan) Hunt, Stephen (Bari Sholom) Messur, Shannon (Kyle) Oliver, Kaycie (Steven) Japp, Caitlyn (Thomas Minns) McHale, Taylor (Chadd) Lee, Nicholas Voigt; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Adalynn, Garhett, James, Kamryn, Sutton; several nieces and nephews.
