Dorothy M. Welc

1927 - 2022

STANLEY – Dorothy M. Welc, age 94, passed away peacefully at home Friday (April 1, 2022).

Services were private, with burial in Sand Hill Cemetery.

Dorothy was born May 5, 1927, in Flint, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Claud and Dagmar (Carlsen) Heckman. She attended Flint School, until her family moved to Stanley when she was 16. She graduated from Seneca-Gorham-Potter Central School in 1946.

After graduation, she worked at Shuron Optical Co. in Geneva, until she married her high school sweetheart, Chester Welc, on June 21, 1951. She continued to work on her parent's small farm until they retired. She would tell stories of setting cabbage plants, baling straw and topping carrots. Chet and Dorothy had been married for 62 years when he passed away in 2014. In life they were inseparable and are now together again.

Dorothy was a loving and caring mother, who was proud to stay at home and raise her family. She enjoyed sewing, doing beaded crafts, watching the birds at the birdfeeder, and gardening. She made the best apple pie and loved spending time with her family. Dorothy would decorate every corner of their home for the holidays and enjoyed having family members gather to celebrate. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy was a loving spirit that always had a smile and a sparkle in her eyes.

She will be deeply missed.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Mark) Goettel and Marie Welc; three grandchildren, Katrina (Andrew) Pacyna, Jeffrey (Hope) Goettel and Juliana (Jeremy) Jagla; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Goettel, Aaron Pacyna and Jonathan Pacyna; her sister, Virginia Schram; and a niece and three nephews.
