James Cecere Obituary

GENEVA – James E. Cecere, 74, of Geneva, passed away on Wednesday (January 25, 2017) at Geneva General Hospital.
Family and friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday (January 29) at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High Street, Geneva. Members of the Nester Hose Company will meet at 4:00 p.m., Knights of Columbus at 4:30 and the American Legion at 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (January 30) with prayers at the funeral home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis-St. Stephen School Education Fund or Golisano Children's Hospital.
Jim was born on March 18, 1942, in Geneva, the son of the late Frank and Marie Hennessy Cecere and was a graduate of DeSales High School. He tried out for the Buffalo Bills, where he attended training camp in Florida. Jim retired after many years as a Liquor Salesman, with Peerless Ontario Liquor Distribution in Rochester. He was the former owner of Cleo's and the Lakeside Laundromat.
Jim was a life member and past Captain of the Nester Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department, St. Stephen's Church, St. John Bosco Chapel, Knights of Columbus Geneva Council 272, Elks Lodge, American Legion Winnek post 396 and the Appleknockers. He enjoyed horse racing, golf and had coached football for the Geneva Browns Junior Football Team and DeSales High School.
He is survived by his children James Cecere, Jr., of Philadelphia, Pa., Ron (Amy) Cecere, of Canandaigua, Karen Cecere Irland, of Geneva and Melissa (Bo) Wright, of Skaneateles; grandchildren Connor, Jack and Susie Cecere, Ben, Rian and Jake Irland, Madeleine and Charlotte Wright; sisters and brothers Theresa (Joseph) DiZillo, of Bedford, N.H., Frank "Pinky" (Kathy) Cecere, Jr., of Geneva, John (Linda) Cecere, of Geneva, Stephen (Sheila) Cecere, of Jacksonville, Fla., Lenny (Meg) Cecere, of Geneva and Jeanne (Ron) Johnson, of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Frank and Marie; his wife, Susan and a brother, Danny.

My condolences to the Cecere family.I worked with Jim at both Ontario and Peerless . Went on a few trip with Jim and his wife Sue ,that we won while at the liquor companies. Jim was a gentleman and had a great sense of humor. Played golf with Jim and after he took us to a great fish fry at the Legion.Just a great guy, he will be missed. It was a pleasure and an honor knowing him.

To All the Cecere Family. So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Jim was a great person and he was always there to help you out, no matter what it consisted of. When he was a liquor salesman we bought everything we could from Jim because he was honest and trustworthy. His word was gold. Jim will be missed not only by his family but his wealth of friends.
