James Hauf Obituary

GENEVA - James R. Hauf, age 75, of Geneva, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Geneva General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday (January 24) from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the McGuigan & Bero Funeral Home, 45 High St., Geneva. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the spring in the New York State Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes (Sampson).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thrive to Survive, PO Box 1146, Geneva, NY14456.

James was born on August 26, 1948, in Waterloo, the son of the late Walter and Mary (DelPapa) Hauf. He graduated from Waterloo High School in 1966. He joined the US Army, serving from 1966-1969.

Jim was a dedicated employee of Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls for over 40 years. He was a member of the Geneva American Legion Winnek Post 396 and the MacDougall Sportsmen's and Conservation Association. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Geneva American Legion and "signed the book" daily. He also enjoyed visits to American Legions throughout the East Coast.

Jim was a loyal, consistent pillar of the family. He was hardworking, quiet yet witty, and a dedicated dependable grandpa and father. He loved camping trips in the Skamper Camper, cruising the Caribbean with his wife and friends, cooking for family, and boating and fishing on Seneca and Lamoka Lakes. Jim was a competitive Euchre player, golfed in several leagues, and enjoyed hunting with friends. Jim was also talented in woodworking and home renovations.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia (Shane) Hauf; children, Jennifer (Mark) Champlin of Geneva, Christine (Dan) Pickard of Waterloo and Katie (Jake) Allard of Horseheads; grandchildren, Taylor and Ren Champlin, Logan Muchler and Troy Pickard, and Nora and Cullen Allard; sisters, Alice Moskal of Palmyra and Barbara Caci of Lyons; brother, Walter (Margie) Hauf of Waterloo; in-laws, Kathy (David) Simmons, Peggy Shane and Cathy Shane; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Mary Hauf; mother-in-law, Kay Shane; son-in-law, Karl Muchler; and in-laws, Edward Moskal, Joseph Caci, Joe Shane and David Shane.

I grew up across the street from the Haufs. Jimmy was a great kid. We played a lot of sandlot baseball, touch football and other games. Nice memories for me. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
