Joan Maher Obituary

GENEVA - Joan Anne Maher, 81, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022, surrounded by her family.

The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m on Wednesday (April 27) at St. Stephen's Church, where Joan and Bob were members. The family will greet people at the church, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and will host a reception afterward with details to be shared at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish, 130 Exchange Street, Geneva, NY 14456.

The former Miss Waterloo, was born May 25, 1940, at Taylor Brown Hospital in Waterloo, N.Y. Joan was married to Robert for 60 years, and they began their life together in Geneva, where their two children were born. They then lived in both Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island and Rochester, N.Y., before returning to Geneva in 1978. For over 20 years, Joan and Bob, along with dear friends from Geneva, spent their winters in Pompano Beach, Fla. Joan was active in her condominium community, serving as the building representative, where she oversaw the annual landscaping requirements, an area close to her heart. Joan also served on the Association's Board of Directors, and she oversaw social activities for years.

Joan worked as a manager at Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls for more than 20 years. She was justifiably proud of the work she did, but perhaps most importantly, she formed lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers who became like family to her. Joan was a charter member of the Lunch Bunch, a group of Goulds friends who bonded over the years. Joan treasured her time with family and friends. She was vibrant, kind and generous, and loved her husband, children and grandchildren with everything she had. Joan leaves behind a family who is both heartbroken and grateful.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Robert; children, David (Mary Eileen) Maher and Susan (James David) Hage; sisters, Carolyn (Steven) Mocko and Mary Theresa (Kevin) Wilson; brother, William (Linda) Reeder; sister-in-law, Linda (Robert) Reeder; and grandchildren, John, Bridget, Patrick (Maher) and Theodore, Benjamin and Alexandra (Hage).

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Edward Reeder; and brothers, James and Robert Reeder.

When Coach Maher arrived at DeSales with his wife we were thrilled and thought Mrs Maher was so,so beautiful! As we began to interact we found she was as lovely and kind as she was beautiful. I have many wonderful memories. May she Rest In Peace!

Joan was an absolute sweetheart who was like a second mom to so many. We worked together closely for many years at Goulds Pumps. She was always interested in knowing what was going on in your life and enjoyed sharing the latest about Susan and David. Somehow she knew I was not a huge fan of salmon loaf and found a way to humorously slide that into our conversations.
You will be missed; our condolences to Bob, David and Susan.
