He practiced medicine in Kanakanak, Alaska, Rochester and Dundee, N.Y.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Vicki Baker Cooley.
He is survived by his wife, Heather Mackenzie Cook; children, Margaret, John Jr., Carolyn, and Samuel Cooley; seven grandchildren; and two stepsons.
Memorial service to be held November 19 in Watkins Glen.
