Karen Yacuzzo Obituary

NEWARK - Karen Yacuzzo (born Karen Alane Sek), passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021 at her home in Newark, after battling lung cancer.

In accordance with Karen's wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life when it is safe for family and friends to gather.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to an animal shelter of your choice.

Karen was born in Jacksonville, N.C. on October 18, 1952, and graduated from Phelps High School in 1970. Karen enjoyed a lifelong career in nursing, graduating from CCFL in 1981 and working throughout the years at Geneva General Hospital, Visiting Nurse Services of the Finger Lakes, Newark Wayne Community Hospital, and Lifetime Care from which she retired in 2019. Karen's dedication to her profession was apparent even on her days off, once helping to save the life of a fellow patron at Mario's Restaurant by administering CPR. This act of heroism earned her recognition from the NYS Legislature.

Karen loved traveling, especially anywhere with warm sandy beaches, though she made an exception for Ireland, which she called the "motherland". Wherever she was in the world, Karen was known for being the life of the party and for her love of live music and dancing. Karen will be fondly remembered as an excellent cook who honored special requests, a talent that she shared with friends and family at annual gatherings and celebrations.

Karen touched countless lives, and will be missed by many.

Karen is survived by her partner, Doug Anson; daughter, Kristin Boden; sons Ryan Page and Kevin (Noelle) Page; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings Kenneth Burgett and Susan McShayne; as well as many devoted friends; and her cherished dogs.

Karen is predeceased by her beloved mother, Joan Burgett.

Karen was a very special lady. I was lucky to reconnect with her in 2016 in Florida with Carol Vienna. I remember how she loved to laugh and she was always fun to be around. Rest In Peace my friend.

I am so saddened to hear about Karen. We were "old" friends that had lost touch. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and we worked our first jobs together, after we graduated. We had so many good times together, laughing - always happy. It sounds like she was a very special person all through her life. Will always hold happy memories and a special place for her in my heart. I wish peace and comfort and prayers for her and her family. Patty Huxley

I’ve known Karen for many years. Although we hadn’t seen each other lately we always communicated on Facebook. Karens’ mom and Ken and little Kenny lived across the road from us at one time and our mothers were good friends years ago. I join everyone in saying she was a wonderful person and a loyal friend.

Karen was a friend and classmate for 50+ years. We spent our high school and Nursing school years together sharing laughs and study times together. She was a loyal and caring friend, and an exceptional, one of a kind nurse. Karen was a doer and a mover. She was happiest when she was busy helping others. She will be missed by so many whose lives she touched in one way or another. Rest in sweet peace my friend. I'll never forget you. Love, Kathy Tandle Phillips
