Kenneth Eveland Obituary

GENEVA - Kenneth R. Eveland, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at home with his family by his side. He was 61 years old.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, (June 15) at the Presbyterian Church, 24 Park Place, Geneva. Burial will immediately follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Aeneas McDonald Police Benevolent Association.

In 1961, Ken was born to Ronald and Leita Eveland in Penn Yan. After graduating from the Penn Yann Academy in 1981, he was hired as a Police Officer by the Geneva Police Department (1983-2003) and held the position as president of the Aeneas McDonald PBA for several years. After retirement, his passion for law enforcement continued where he worked for the Waterloo Police Department.

Ken was a respected and proud police officer, active in the community and a life member of the Nester Hose Company. He received his bachelors and master's degrees in criminal justice from Keuka College and ultimately became an adjunct professor at the Finger Lakes Community College teaching criminal justice.

Ken was a devoted husband to Cheryl Eveland for 41 years, and together raised three children, Justin, Ronald, and Jonathan. His greatest love in life was his family; he went above and beyond to bring his family together to capture moments and create lasting memories. These memories included many vacations spent camping in the Adirondack Mountains, trips to Buffalo to cheer on the Buffalo Bills, and sharing his knowledge of the wilderness with his boys, taking them hunting and fishing. He never missed a moment to have a good time and was the life of every party.

Ken was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his wife Cheryl; children Justin (Ashley) Eveland, Ronald (Nicole) Eveland, and Jonathan Eveland; grandchildren Jonathan and Bennett Eveland. He is also survived by his siblings, Deborah McEachern and Diane Eveland.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Richard and Edwin Eveland. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Ken courageously battled cancer since 2017 and during that time, through countless treatments and procedures, continued to put his family first. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to: Wilmot Cancer Center, Strong Memorial Hospital Palliative Care and Ontario-Yates Hospice for their professional care and kindness. The family would like to acknowledge Karen Picchi and Donna Principio for their compassionate care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Devaney-Bennett Funeral Home.

This is one of the saddest days of my life . I lost my best friend Ken was like a brother to me . He was one of the kindest people i have ever known. he always had a smile on his face . I knew Ken for about 30 years . We spent a lot time together we liked the same things . We were die hard Bills and Sabres fan . The tail gate parties were something else he always made sure everyone had a good time and had lots of fun that was the kind of guy he was .Ken had the kindest heart extended his hand to help if he could often reaching in his pocket if that was needed . I had a bad time in my life and Ken was there he knew what to say and how to help .His home was always open and there was room at the dinner table . holidays the same you were always accepted and wanted . that is the kind of person Ken was . there for everyone . Ken and Cheryl introduced me to the girl i would eventually marry and o yes Ken was my best man and Cheryl was a bridesmaid what a great time that was . I can never say enough things about him he treated everyone with respect . Ken loved his work the pet store paper routes and being a policeman . he was good at it all . Everyone is better off for knowing him he was so well known by so many many and i could go on friends . Cheryl Justin Ronnie and Jon my heart and best wishes go out to you go on it will be hard to do but live your lives as Ken did with a smile on his face as he would want you to do. ken my good friend my brother thank you for touching my life you were the best and you will be forever missed !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such sad news. I grew up on Walnut street and when I was little, Ken accidentally hit me in the mouth with a ball next to the Chestnut St school. He felt so terrible, even though it was probably my fault! May he rest in peace and my best goes to all that love him.
