Louis F. Jerger Jr.

INTERLAKEN - Louis F. Jerger, Jr. age 92, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter in Freeville on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Lou was born in Bridgeport, Ohio on December 19, 1931, a son of the late Louis and Minerva (nee Gary) Jerger, Sr. He was inducted into the US Air Force in 1951 and proudly served his country during the Korean War until 1955 and was discharged from Sampson Air Force Base. Lou was married to Shirley McGlaughlin in 1951 and enjoyed a long career at the Interlaken Post Office. He was actively involved in Farmerville Union F&AM Lodge #183 of Interlaken, Royal Arch Masons of Trumansburg, Commandery #17, Knights of the York Cross, a Shriner, and OES South Seneca Chapter #200. In addition, Lou had been a faithful and founding member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sheldrake. Lou's friendly smile, kind personality and genuine caring demeanor were known by all he encountered, which led to many lifelong friendships.

He is survived by his children: Chris (Pam) of Littleton, Colo., Joseph (Amparo) of Sanford, Fla. and Cheryl (William) Hoyte of Freeville, N.Y.; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife (Shirley); a son (Jerry); his sister (Sue and Bob Miller); in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Michelle and Sara, who helped take care of Lou the last couple of years.

The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid from 11:00 a.m. to Noon on Friday (November 1). Masonic Rites at 11:45, funeral services to follow. Interment with military honors will follow in Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.
