I remember the first time I met Mark. I was with my dear friend Michelle and Mark opened up his home and made me feel very welcome, like we had known each other. Memories of dancing is what I think when I think of Mark. Life is eternal. Glad to have connected in this lifetime.

Friendship for 22 years, two pianos, Davies Symphony Hall, Legion of Honor, loaning me your CRX while you were in Peace Corps, steel drums at the Santa Cruz luau, North Beach, taking care of Gabe, the list goes on and on... One of the most exceptional human beings I have ever known. You are missed.

Mark was a wonderful neighbor and friend to our family. We have many memories...him painting our house, mending our broken windows and his great laugh. Although after we moved from San Francisco, we lost touch with Mark, he will remain in our fond memories as a caring and loving friend.

I was deeply touched today when I quite accidentally found out that Mark passed away recently when I just so happened to skim the obituary section in the local newspaper. Believe me, this is not something I routinely do, but today I felt an "urge." I believe it was Mark's spirit reaching out to everyone whose life he touched to proclaim, "I am now in God's hands and I can now see once more, and continue my love of dance and life in Heaven!"

Mark was an inspiration for me with his zest for living life fully, despite his visual impairment. I met Mark when he started as a volunteer VIP (visually-impaired person) Dance Guide, as was I, for Allegro Ballroom. His energy, laughter and boundless sense of humor, and gift for dance constantly lit up the ballroom. He made others around him happy and comfortable. He inspired other visually-impaired dancers to believe in themselves and their capabilities. He instilled hope and a positive "can do" attitude among everyone around him.

I offer my sincerest condolences to his family members and friends. He will be missed by all, but we can rest assured he lives on in our memories and our inspirations.

We are very sorry to learn of the passing of Mark, but very grateful to him for his service to our nation as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Dominica.
