Lucy P. “Lucy Boo” Griffin

1952 - 2025

Lucy “Lucy Boo” Griffin, 73, of Petersburg, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on September 21, 2025, at HCA Virginia Chippenham Hospital.

Born on January 16, 1952, in Dinwiddie, Virginia, Lucy was the cherished daughter of the late Clifton and Irene Bonner. Known affectionately by many as "Lucy Boo," she was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her. Lucy had a calm free-spirited nature, and an infectious joy that touched countless hearts. Lucy was a family diary and often gave life advice to tough decisions. Lucy lived by the simple but profound motto: “Do what makes you happy,” and she encouraged others to do the same.

Lucy found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. Whether fishing, caring for others, or simply bringing laughter with her signature humor, she embraced life with love and authenticity. Lucy love listening to music and enjoyed dancing to her favorite tune “Bag Lady by Erykah Badu”. Her smile was radiant and her laugh was a breath of fresh air. She marched to the beat of her own drum — offering kindness, wisdom, and comfort wherever she went. She could most certainly be found sipping a cup of coffee. 

She now joins her parents, Clifton and Irene Bonner; her brothers, Calvin “Coon” Bonner, James “Mack” Bonner, and Robert “Mane Boy” Bonner; and her nephew, Clinton “Tony” Cowden, who welcomed her into eternal rest.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters, Annalisa "Lisa" Perpall, Williesena "Wezzie" Vest (Quincy), and Aerial "Brit" Jones (Marty). She was a proud grandmother to Whitney Perpall (Calvin), Damond McLaughlin, Shawn Mason, Jr., Carolyn Perpall, Quincy Vest, Jr., Kayla Vest, Avyah Jones and Anthony Bates, Jr; and a devoted great-grandmother to Inidya Ross, Taylor Luckett, August Pennix, and Boston Chambliss.

She is also survived by her sisters, Edna Cain (William) and Carolyn Jones (Herman); her devoted friends, Dorothy Chambers, Richetta Graves, and Rosa Hill; and her beloved nieces and nephews including Tracey Jones, Darryl Bonner (Christine), Kevin Bonner, Jabari Turner, David Jones, James Jones, Cameron Bonner, Edtina Cain (Alonzo), Domonick Cain, and Cliffton Sherod Cain. She was loved dearly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to include her Bunker Hill Family 318 and she loved them deeply in return.

Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to live on through every life she touched.

Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 3, 2025, at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, 613 E. Wythe Street, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Eli Melvin, Jr., Pastor, and Pastor La-Tanya Carter, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
