Stephen Powers Obituary

GENEVA - Stephen E. Powers, 74, of Toms River, N.J., passed away on Monday (May 25, 2015) after a brief illness.
Private Services were held in New Jersey.
Memorial contributions, in his memory, may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Stephen was born in Geneva, N.Y., on November 25, 1941, the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Nolan) Powers. He graduated from DeSales High School in 1958 and was a member of the DHS football team that defeated their cross town rivals Geneva High School for the very first time in 1958. He was a proud patriot and a US Navy veteran. After being discharged from the Navy he went on to study at Penn State University and graduated from there in 1965. He then attended Syracuse University Law School and received his Law Degree in 1969. Stephen will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, and Pop Pop, a distinguished attorney, an avid reader and a loyal Penn State alumni.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Susan; his children, Christopher, Timothy, Colleen (Peter), Brendan, Maureen (Nicholas) and Ryan; four grandchildren; as well as four brothers, Kevin, Michael (Nancy), Daniel (Barbara) and Christopher.

Steve & I go all the way back to St. Stephens elementary school, 1946. We both played on the DeSales football, joined the Navy in October 1958, went to boot camp at Great Lakes, IL. We parted ways in Chicago, January 1959. Steve was on his way to Memphis, TN for Aviation Fire Control training and I was headed back to Great Lakes for training. From 1st grade through boot camp Steve & I were what I would describe as "best Friends". Our careers took us in different directions. I am very saddened to hear of his death. Not much else to say other than he was a good friend.
