I first met Mr Woods in early 1971 when he hired me out of grad school at Cortland to take a teaching position at North Rose-Wolcott. I must say, with his military background he was most professional and very persuasive. He became my mentor, and with his guidance, he became like a "big brother" to me. We were known for getting into some jocular banter over the years-all in good fun
There was a certain presence with Mr Woods. He commanded respect, not only by words, but by his presence. He was the go-to-man, locally at NRW, in Section V, and indeed the State when level headedness and reason were needed. He was an icon in the field of scholastic education. He was a powerful advocate for student athletes.
In addition to coaching soccer and swimming, Mr Woods got me involved on the boys Section V and State Soccer Committees as well as refereeing at the scholastic and collegiate levels. He was a class act, one of a kind.
I am grateful for his mentoring and guidance over the years. It was a privilege to have worked with and for him, but mostly I am grateful for his friendship. He will be sorely missed.

I was a member of Ted's graduation class at Cortland State. While I knew Ted, we were not close friends. Because my career took me away from New York state I was not aware of the success he achieved in the school system in Wayne and Cayuga counties. The tributes that have been recorded here make it clear that he was a special kind of educator. As a result, he has made his classmates proud to have known him.

Ted Woods was my teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. He was an energetic, honest, caring, hard working person. I regret I did not leave my home in Lancaster, PA to visit him. My life is richer as a result of my positive relationship with Ted...

Mr. Woods was a caring supportive administrator. He encouraged trying new approaches to teaching classes. If it didn't work, his suggestion was modify or try a new method. He supported students and staff alike. I respected Mr. Woods as an administrator and friend and his spirit will live on in those who knew him.

We have lost one of the true leaders of NYSPHSAA and the world of high school boys soccer. We will remember Ted as an administrator, a referee, a mentor, an invaluable resource, and most importantly as a good and trusted friend.
Ted will be missed by the North Rose community, the NYSPHSAA, the boys soccer committee and all of Section V. His contributions have been innumerable; both as an educator and as an icon in the world of high school sports. I first met Mr. Woods in 1991 and have always appreciated his availability as a mentor and a guide for these many years.
We will keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
