Winnie Gefter (nee Neiman), age 97, died peacefully at the Quadrangle in Haverford, PA on Monday, December 8, 2014. Born in Philadelphia on September 8, 1917, Winnie was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married to the late William I. Gefter, M.D. for sixty-seven years. She was dearly loved by her children, the late Sharon Greene (William Greene), Ellen Gefter (the late Daniel Rodriguez), Warren Gefter, M.D. (Marlene) and Gail Simon Darlington (Mark). Winnie was loving Nana to her six grandchildren: Dana Greene (Evan Appelbaum, M.D.), Joshua Greene (Amy Hunter), Alison Greene (Benjamin Irvin), Brian Gefter, Amanda Gefter, Rebecca Rodriguez; and five great-grandchildren: Wesley Greene, Theodore Greene, Oscar Appelbaum, Travis Appelbaum and Edith Greene Irvin. At age 15, Winnie was the youngest graduate of Simon Gratz High School. She attended the Philadelphia Normal School and taught in the Philadelphia School District. A talented writer, Winnie worked in public relations for the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania. She served as president of the Sisterhood at Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, PA, and was an active volunteer for Hadassah. Winnie lived in Stamford, CT from 1973-2007 and then moved to the Quadrangle in Haverford, PA, where she was a beloved resident for the past seven years. Winnie will be remembered always as a wise, beautiful woman with a wonderful sense of humor and love of people. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1p.m. at the chapel in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Burial will follow in Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, NY.
