Richard "Dick" Forster passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in New Hope, Minnesota, at the age of 86.
Born and raised in Saint Paul, Dick graduated from Wilson High School and served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. After returning from military service, he met his beloved wife of 62 years, Jeanie. The couple later opened a hardware store in Wyoming, Minnesota, where they raised their family and built a community.
Dick was a volunteer firefighter, rising to the rank of Captain, and later drove a school bus in his retirement years. He loved cars, spending time at his camper at Springvale, and making "Grandpa pancakes" for his grandkids. He also had a soft spot for his beagles, who brought him years of loyal companionship and joy. Always smiling, endlessly kind, and deeply loved, Dick left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife Jeanie; daughter Wendy Shapiro (Jamie) and granddaughters Elayna and Miranda; son Richard Forster (Amy Sundell); granddaughters Kaila Forster (Sam Levitus) and Emily Zabinski (Karl); and great-grandchildren Gemma Zabinski, Damien Zabinski, and Maria Zabinski.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Gustaf and Clara Forster; his sister Betty Oehme and her husband Wally; and his brother-in-law Bob Fehrman.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19, at Faith Lutheran Church, 886 North Shore Dr., Forest Lake, MN 55025. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m., with lunch to follow.
