Charles Holland Obituary

Charles Lee Holland
Charles Lee Holland, 81, woke up for Sunday worship in heaven the morning of September 5, 2021. Lee was born on April 30, 1940 in Dalton, to the late Harry Lee and Suzanne Henderson Holland. He grew up in Gainesville, where he met and married Sandy, the love of his life for 59 years. Lee graduated from Georgia Tech in 1963. He then joined his dad in the bridge and culvert construction business for 10 years. There in Gainesville, he was a charter member of the Boys' Club as a youngster, later served on the Board, a member of the Optimist Club. In 1971 he was employed by C.E. Thurston Refractory Contractors in Norfolk, VA for a year before returning to Atlanta to work for Williams Brothers Concrete (later Blue Circle) for 18 years. His last 15 years before retirement were spent at the job he most loved, with Gwinnett County Schools, in various positions, ultimately retiring in 2007 as Executive Director of Facilities and Operations. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sue Holland, sister Linda Sims, niece Debra Ponder. He is survived by his wife Sandy McGee Holland, daughter Donna Paschal (Mark), sons David (Michelle) Holland, Greg (Amy) Holland, grandchildren Kaylee Yoder (Trent), Nathan Paschal, Brynn and Aleah Holland, Josh and Owen Holland, step-grandchildren Cameron and Rena Harrison, great grandson Ty Charles Yoder, brother Lamar Holland (Gail), nephew Jeff Holland (Adriene), niece Mandy Holland Gregory (Clint), and great nieces Erin, Gracie, Kinley and Maddie. He is also survived by other cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Lee's strong, abiding faith led him to serve as a Deacon at Dunwoody Baptist Church and as part of the Willing and Able at Johns Creek Baptist Church. Missions were his passion, demonstrated by his participation in trips to Venezuela, Prague, Czech Republic, Elam, England, Istanbul, Turkey as well as many endeavors close to home – Perry County, AL, Habitat for Humanity, No Longer Bound, Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries, North Fulton Community Charities (bikes for kids at Christmas), Samaritan's Purse and various Forsyth County mission opportunities. He was faithful to his Men's Bible Study and enjoyed their projects as Backpacks for Love, cookouts and dinners at JCBC for NLB, and Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries. Lee's favorite times were those spent with family, whether at home, visiting children, grandchildren and great grandchild, or times together at Hilton Head or Highlands. From the earliest times, it was always about "making memories". Lee and Sandy loved to travel, both locally and abroad. They owned a home in Highlands for many years where they enjoyed hiking, to waterfalls especially, and in general the peaceful mountain atmosphere. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 11, at Johns Creek Baptist Church. Live streaming will be available at https://livestream.com/accounts/6863714/events/983811. Visitation following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Lee's name for Elam Ministries c/o Johns Creek Baptist Church at https://jcbc.org/. Checks may be sent to JCBC, 6910 McGinnis Ferry Road, Alpharetta, GA 30005 with Lee Holland/Elam on the memo line.

I know the funeral service was meaningful and in Way also happy. (I remember Aunt Sue's was like that). We admire Lee much. With love and sympathy to all of the family, the Donaldsons

Meeting the two of you was truly a blessing. You both became like another set of grandparents to me. Thank you for becoming people in my life that I will never forget and thank you for the laughs and love that you shared with me.

So sorry for your loss. Sandy, you and Lee both were always there to help us every time we put together a party for the class. Lee liked to win the prizes. We love you!
