Carol Weilbaker-Ivins Obituary

Carol Weilbaker-Ivins, 86, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on March 29, 2025, at St. Anne Home. She was born October 3, 1938. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ross "Tack" Weilbaker and John Ivins; and her brother, John (Jack) R. Clawson III. Carole lived a life marked by fun, faith, and an unwavering love for her family. With her enthusiasm for life, she was very successful in sales and brought the fun wherever she went. She loved to laugh and make others laugh too, even if unintentionally. Her humor was never filtered, always spontaneous, and unmistakably Carole. She was an avid reader and loved to play Euchre and Rummikub and she could play for hours! She wouldn't turn down a margarita or chips and salsa, and she never ate a turtle sundae she didn't like. She had a generous spirit of hospitality. Carole loved the Lord and was an active, founding member of her church, Sovereign Redeemer Church in Harlan, where she loved worshiping with Pastor Eddie and her church family. Community service was important to Carole. She served many years as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, was a 40-year member of the Cedar Creek Women's Club, and, in her younger years, served as a Brownie leader. She is survived by her daughters: Crysti (Brian) Everhart of Mt. Airy, NC; Candace (Lou) Weilbaker-Simek of Pittsburgh, PA; and Caroline (Jeff) Doherty of Fort Wayne, IN; as well as her "fourth daughter," Debbie Menshy of Grabill, IN. She was the proud grandmother of, Chelsey Everhart (Orange County, CA), Cameron (Melissa) Everhart (Matthews, NC), Zoe Coleman (Pittsburgh, PA), Slater (Mary) Simek (Manchester, UK), – Quaide (Alizah) Simek (Washington, DC), Sterling (Asher) Passalinqua (Pittsburgh, PA). Carole adored her great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Eliana, and Sutton Everhart, the children of Cameron and Melissa. She is also survived by her sister Joan (Bob) Buhr; her sister-in-law Kathy Clawson; godson Jake (Jerika) Clawson; and several dearly loved nieces and nephews. Carole will be deeply missed-the hilarious stories, moments where she made people laugh (even at her own expense), and the love for her family will be the memories that carry on her legacy. Memorial Service will be 7:00 pm Friday, June 6, 2025, at Sovereign Redeemer Church,12732 Spencerville Rd. Harlan, IN 46743. A Celebration of Life will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Goeglein's Reception Hall, 7311 Maysville Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46815. I had the pleasure of working with Carol when she was a CASA volunteer, and I had just been hired as the new assistant director for the program. This was back in the early 1990's. Carol was so welcoming to me as the newbie on staff. She had the most infectious laugh and was always able to find the positives in just about any situation. Caroln cared about people, and she always wanted the best outcome for our kids. Carol went out of her way to make sure that our kids felt heard. They knew that they could reach out to her, and she would do whatever she could to help them figure out what they needed to do. She offered suggestions that she thought would help, but she never forced her opinions as the best option.
I remember when Carol first met John. She had said one time that she was surprised that she had found someone like him, because she had already had her incredible love story with Tack, and most people weren't that lucky twice in a lifetime. I was sad to see them move to California, but I know that she was looking forward to it.
That move prompted one of the funniest conversations that Carol and I had. She called me a few months after she had moved because she was looking to do some volunteer work. She laughed when she told me that no one was able to do her fingerprints because they had worn away...she laughed and said something along the lines of all the missed opportunities for nefarious activities she might have gotten away with had she known that was going to happen.
Carol was one of those beautiful people, both inside and out. Memories of her have always brought me a smile. My heartfelt prayers for her family that the smiles will long outweigh the tears,
