David Armstrong Obituary

David Jon Armstrong, 64, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, following a three year battle with lung cancer. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, David was a son of the late Robert E. and Nila (Koeneman) Armstrong. David graduated from Northrop High School and earned his undergraduate degree at Vincennes University and then his advanced degree from Purdue in Computer Science. David worked for 38 years for the Indiana Department of Transportation, beginning as a general laborer and ending as a Local Program Section Director. In his spare time, David enjoyed biking, hiking, travel and just being active outdoors. He was always available to lend a helping hand whether it be in his job or for family or friends, or for his volunteer work such as serving meals on Thanksgiving. David is survived by his brothers Daniel (Linda) Armstrong and Douglas Armstrong; nieces and nephews: Lincoln (Diane) Armstrong, Ross (Jamie) Armstrong, Colleen (Jonathan) Portnoy, Meghan (Martin) Walasek and Elizabeth (Jack) Owen, in addition to 10 great-nieces and nephews. Before departing, David's stated message to all of us was: "I am thankful for my Family and Friends. I live on in your memories and hope you remember those good times with fondness as did I". A time of remembrance for David will be from 5 to 7 pm, Monday, February 5, 2024, at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street. Memorials may be made to Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. ([email protected]).

"David Armstrong Guess where we ARE!!!! You get 3 Guesses.... AND 1ST 2 DON'T COUNT!!!!!!!!!!"

That is the post I made on Facebook, on January 21, 2024, with a picture myself, my wife and my youngest son sitting in the Balcony of the Embassy Theater awaiting the performance of "Stomp" to begin.

It´s very hard to believe that David is no longer with us. His presence at the project meetings , his responsiveness and his ability to communicate will be truly missed.

Growing up on Dartmouth Drive next door to the Armstrong family, I remember many debates with David over the value of Mountain Dew! Brings a smile! Funny guy ........
