DAVID HAWN Obituary

DAVID HENRY HAWN, 71, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, 3:30 p.m., at his residence. Born on July 28, 1939, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Charles A. and Florence A. (Sievers) Hawn. He was born and raised in Fort Wayne until age 6 then moved to Whitley County. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the class of 1958 and International Business College in 1960 with an Associates Degree in Accounting. On Nov. 16, 1963, he married Barbara Jo Whiteman at Big Lake Church of God, Columbia City; they moved to Wolf Lake and then in 2002 to Columbia City. He worked at Super Value/Food Marketing, retiring after 29 years of service in 2002. He was former secretary of Columbia City Eagles Lodge 1906; past president of the Whitley County Shrine Club; past Master Mason with Cromwell Masonic Lodge; member of Mizpah Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the Moose Lodge; volunteered with the SHIP Organization; president of the Bear, High, and Wolf Lake Sewer Boards; and member of Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Barbara Jo Hawn of Columbia City; six children, Becky (Darin) Claxton of Churubusco, Connie (Bryan) Blanchard of South Whitley, Jeffrey (Heather) Hawn of Monroeville, Donna (Andy) Pearson of Bloomington, Ill., Kaydean (Chris) Turner and Vern (Belinda) Hawn, both of Columbia City; sister, Arlene (Fred) Aukerman of Grand St. Marys Lake, Ohio; brother, LeRoy (Katherine) Hawn of Columbia City; sister, Mary Ellen (Mick) Walters of Columbia City; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Hawn. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, with Pastor David Arnold of Columbia City United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Burial in Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Hawn to Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. In the 8 or so years that I was lucky enough to meet and get to know Mr. Hahn he always had a smile and a joke. From the stories Donna has told me over the years I know he was a wonderful, caring person that will be dearly missed.
