ERNEST DeGRANDCHAMP Obituary

ERNEST A. DeGRANDCHAMP, 81, passed away on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Kingston Care Center, Fort Wayne surrounded by his loving family. Born in Detroit, Mich., he worked as a foreman with Indiana Michigan Electric Company (AEP) for 42 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Vincent's Men's Club, Indiana Michigan Co. Employers Club, American Legion Post 499, and he started the Joker's Club. He enjoyed calling Bingo, playing horseshoes, volleyball, and Euchre. He also enjoyed taking long walks, camping, and gardening. He loved his family and being a grandpa. Surviving are eight of his nine children, Vivian (Robert) Musser, Jack (Ann) DeGrandchamp, Anita (Kenneth) Harmeyer, Rita (Christopher) Schroeder, Eileen (Thomas) Fenker, Renee (David) Jansen, Jeanne Robinson (Dave), and Carolyn (Corey) Carpenter, all of Fort Wayne; brother, Earl DeGrandchamp of Fort Wayne; sister, Corrine Wolfe of Fort Wayne; half brothers, Vincent DeGrandchamp and Richard DeGrandchamp, both of Mich.; 29 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn J. DeGrandchamp; parents, Walter and Helen DeGrandchamp; daughter, Evelyn Schaefer; granddaughter, Stacy DeGrandchamp; and sister, Theresa Potts. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 1500 W. State Blvd., with calling one hour prior. Fr. Gary Sigler officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Military Honors and Entombment in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Vivian, I was said to hear about your father passing away, your mother was my godmother and my parents were friends with yours.
