Hyland Plimpton Obituary

Hyland W. ""Hy"" Plimpton, 84, passed away on August 11, 2023. Hy went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Tarrytown, New York, Hyland was a son of the late Hyland and Addie Plimpton Sr. Directly following high school, Hyland served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1956-1964. He earned his bachelors degree from Siena College in Chemistry. Hyland retired as vice president of sales and marketing at General Electric where he was employed for 43 years. He was an active member of Pathway Community Church and served as local missions director. Hyland's dedication to the mission field is summed up by him in these words, "Local missions are a key part of our church values, we are the hands and feet of Jesus and will do His work in our community." His willingness to volunteer to those organizations he felt called to never ended. He was dedicated to the cause and was adamant on helping those in need. This deep care for others comes from His love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His other passions were family, traveling, golfing, painting, poetry, baking and rooting for the Chicago Cubs. Surviving are his wife Marie Plimpton; children, Todd Plimpton, Shana (Steve) Pearson, Matthew (Melissa) Plimpton; grandchildren; Crystal, Rachel, Kenny, Max, Charlie, Annabelle, Gracie, Josie; great-grandchildren; Garrett, Henry, Harrison, Albanie, Lilly, Clark; and brothers, Gary and Randy Plimpton A Celebration of Hyland's Life will be 11 am, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Pathway Community Church with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Pathway from 4 pm to 7 pm. I met Hy and Marie through their involvement with Community Harvest Food Bank. They delivered, and orchestrated the delivery of 1000's of bags of groceries to homebound seniors. They were always easy to work with and believed in our mission. Hy will be greatly missed by his friends at CHFB.

My husband and I met Hy and Marie on a trip to Alaska. Hy and Iain, my husband played golf across the Yukon river from Dawson city. It was a Rough course with dredge buckets to mark the holes.
A few years later, 2013, I think it was, the Plimptons came to Scotland and Hy and Iain managed to get a time on the Old Course, St Andrews, the home of golf. This is not easy at short notice. Hy was beyond excited.
My sincere condolences to Marie and all the family. Hy has gone to a better place. RIP.

I never met a man with more energy and positivity than Hy. I was so lucky to have him walk into our volunteer offices in 2008. He became a reluctant leader and partner in a fun but exhausting journey. He was a great person with an upbeat disposition and I am very happy our lives crossed paths. I´m not only the proud owner of one but two original Hy Plimpton paintings. He painted Wrigley Field for my mom because he knew she loved the cubs and a beautiful landscape for me. Hugs to his beautiful Marie. RIP buddy. AC4O.
