JAMES WILEY Obituary

JAMES R. "JIM" WILEY, 75, of Huntington, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, 8:09 p.m., at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born April 10, 1936, in Lancaster Township, Huntington County, he was the son of I. H. and Mary (Alexander) Wiley. He graduated from Lancaster Township High School in 1954 and Huntington (College) University in 1960. He received a Master of Education from University of Saint Francis in 1967 and went on to earn a degree in Secondary Administration and Supervision from Ball State University. He was a veteran serving with the United States Army 101st Air Borne Division. On Sept. 7, 1958, he married Janet L. McClurg at Markle Church of Brethren. In 1996, he retired after 36 years in education from Huntington County Community School Corporation, having served as Assistant Principal, Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher. In his spare time, he coached Junior League, Little League and Pony League baseball for over 11 years. After retirement, he volunteered as an Escort for Lutheran Hospital for 10 years. He was a member of The Chapel where he served as an Elder for six years. He was a member of the Huntington County Retired Teachers Association and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He was inducted into the Huntington County Sports Hall of Fame and named "Outstanding Educator" in 1974. His hobbies included golfing and fishing and he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janet L. Wiley of Huntington; one son, Philip J. Wiley of Huntington; one daughter, Ann (Steve) Newell of Augusta, Mich.; one brother, Jerry (Alice) Wiley of Huntington; three sisters, Carol Zurcher of Huntington, Nancy Wiley of Fort Wayne and Marilyn (Ken) Pientka of Middleton, Wis.; and four grandchildren, Danielle Wiley, Brett Wiley, Katelyn Newell, and Kelly Newell. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Rick Hawks officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County, with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 2689. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or Love, INC of Huntington c/o Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, IN 46750.
